Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

So TT doesn't pick up his QO or sign a deal so he remains a restricted FA through next year. That seems like a pretty huge fuck up by somebody. What's Paul going to say today? "TT will only play for a max deal. Otherwise he'll sit out until he gets it." The only way this makes any sense is if they think a deal is eminent and wanted the 5 years rather than the QO. His options now are to sign the contract the Cavs offer, sign a 3 year deal (last year can be player option) with Philly or Portland (don't want or need his game) that the Cavs will match, or sit out and make no money just to get another QO next year. None of those option seem better than just taking the 80/5 that the Cavs offered. If they really are 14 mil apart on a long term deal his best bet was to take the QO and at least be unrestricted next year. He still wouldn't get 80 mil over the next 5 years, but it would be in his hands. If I were Griffin I would offer 82/5 today and tell them that they are going to subtract a mil every day that TT isn't with the team.

He's only a restricted free agent next year if he sits out the whole year. So he could get Portland or Philly to give him a one year max contract offer as a "favor" to Rich Paul. But who knows why the team would do that for Rich Paul.

So a multiple year offer has to be eminent.

Can't happen. Rfa rules say another team can only offer a multiple year deal. Portland and Philly have to offer at least a 3 year deal. And Portland clearly has no interest in doing so.

Jared Cunningham making a case for that 15th roster spot. If they think Daye can play stretch 4 he can take TT's spot if/while he holds out. Andy looks like he worked on his shot and passing during his injury.

Lebron getting a shot in the back is not a good thing and I do not care if he got one last January when he took his 2 week hiatus. Any time you start fooling with a back you are living dangerously and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

It's never good when your best player isn't at 100%, but I think a lot of this is to give him the 2+ weeks off that he took last January now rather than during the season. Maybe that will help get the spring in his step from the first game and they can avoid him having to sit out for an extended period during the season. I think they also think they aren't going to be able to limit his minutes as much to start the season so it's better if he starts the season rested.

I've heard Love could come back for the next preseason game, which would be good. As long as Kyrie is out I'm guessing Lebron and Love are going to average at least 35 minutes a game with at least one of them being on the floor as long as the game is in question. They need to find someone else that can handle the ball other than Mo and Lebron until Kyrie gets back. It looks like they've been seeing what Cunningham can do, but TT's roster spot might go to a backup PG until Kyrie is ready.

On a side note I read today that they pulled the 80mil offer to TT as soon as he didn't pickup the QO. I get the feeling he's going to regret not taking the 80 mil. I'm guessing the Cavs are saving a bunch of money every game that TT isn't signed so I doubt they are going to bust their ass to get him in soon. They could bring back the 80 mil contract halfway through the season and end up only having to pay him 8 mil this year, which would save them 28 mil between salary and tax. Right now they are 4 mil over the tax so they are paying 6 mil in tax. If they gave TT 16 mil from the beginning of the season they start the season 20 mil over the tax line and pay 45 mil.

I like Cunninghams' game. He is quick and make his own shot or deliver which is what we lacked in the playoffs last year. He isnt going to supplant one of the stars or vets but if he can continue to develop, who knows what he'll end up being

A person very close to me:biggrin: kknows quite a bit about the back and has dealt with a number of people with back issues. I have learned quite a bit from this person about backs and once you start messing with a back it is not a good situation. I hope I am wrong and I agree with everything else you stated in your post especially regarding TT.
