Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

If history has proven anything, it's that Varejao won't make it to January, and that somebody will waaaaay overpay for Thompson. I hope it's not the Cavs.

I wasn't saying that Varejao should back up both, only that he could. I would like to see him get minimal minutes to avoid injury. 12-16 per game.
I would rather trade Thompson and get a serviceable PF and possibly SF. to backup Love and Lebron, leaving Varejao to sparingly backup Mozgov.

TT is such a great player that the Cavs were lottery bound every year until Lebron came back.
Even with Lebron, the Cavs were terrible until we got Mozgov to protect the rim.

I care more about resigning Mozgov long term next year. I'll be glad if TT walks away from 80M.

What pisses me off is TT wasting the offseason, trying to extort the Cavs for money he knows he's not worth.
Draymond Green only got 85M and he can hit 3's. TT isn't even being realistic.

I wonder if Bennett will really come back to the Cavaliers and, if he does, what effect this would have on Thompson re-signing.

No way he comes back to Cleveland. Sounds like he wants to go someplace with no front court depth so he can see minutes. I'm guessing he'll be looking at a minimum salary 1-2 year unguaranteed contract to try to build up his value. Sad thing is the dude has potential to be a Draymond Green kind of player if he could wrap his head around it.

Not really... what he threw out there was a 3 year max contract... so they haven't retreated as much as I had hoped.... BUT does say TT is getting anxious.. so maybe he's finally gonna get some balls to tell Paul who is boss and what he's willing to do to get on the court.. with a NBA-championship-quality team.... there's always time to get a huge contract with the 76ers if you're tired of winning games

This is just the first step for Paul. Take the total value of the contract down so when they bring it back up to 5 years for less than 94 mil it looks better than 53. I wouldn't be surprised to see it end up in the 82-85 range so everyone can save face. I'll be surprised if Paul lets TT go into the season without a long term deal knowing that the Cavs could severely limit his minutes to tank his value before next summer. Even with the cap bump nobody is giving a moderately good defender and rebounder that isn't much of a rim protector and has no offensive game more than 15 mil a year. If he somehow developed a corner 3 during the summer he might have a shot, but I'm not holding my breath. Honestly the only reason he is a good offensive rebounder is because he has no responsibility on offense other than P&R. If he isn't setting a pick all he has to do is get in position for a rebound. If the Cavs can pick up their 3pt% TT's numbers have nowhere to go but down especially if he is playing 20-25 minutes a game.
