Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

JR needs to stay with the Cavs for the same reason Albert Bell & Manny should have stayed with the Indians
they're all major head cases.. but the media in Cleveland left them alone..
subject them to the piranha media in the major metros (NY/LA/Chicago) and they implode

@TooTallMenardo I'd like that link.. merely to get an idea what the competitive mkt is for him.. I didn't think LA had any room beyond $3M

as it is.. Cavs will likely get him for $6M a year and he'll now be moping

the article was a phony bleacher report bit that said he signed a 2 year $6 million deal with the lakers, which is obviously rubbish. the key for the cavs is to have a team option year in that contract with smith so he has to stay on course.

Phil Jackson has his way of pissing me off.. but the numerous articles out here as to why he traded Smith say that when they needed him to step up and be the go-to star, he disappeared... which is kinda what I felt happened in the finals

If JR is anything more than your 3rd scorer you are in trouble. He is great as a gunslinger off the bench as the 4th or 5th scorer. There aren't too many teams in the league with the right mix of scorers/veteran leader/lack of nightlife to keep JR under control (OKC, SA, anyone else?). The Cavs are probably the only team where JR would be a good fit and has the money to sign him. The only way I give him more than 1 year guaranteed is if he is at a huge discount.

It boils down to someone wanting to tank and that's about it.

yeah that's true, but luckily that is still half the league these days.

I just don't think he has the talent to be a go-to-star.
He doesn't seem to have enough rhythm/athleticism to crossover and dribble drive like Kyrie can, and
he isn't big enough to blow by and drive straight line to the rim like Lebron can.

Certain people can only do certain things, and Smith is a deadly spot up 3pt shooter. Asking for more is asking too much.
I also think that is a big part of why no one is interested in him. There is more to it than just his personality.

I think he has the PHYSICAL talent... but his MENTAL makeup has GAPS
You can clearly see at times that the train is off the tracks...
Some of the things he does followed by addl acts of stupidity exemplify the MENTAL GAPS
IMO it's his HEAD not his shooting touch that prevents him from getting there
and I'm not sure that's fixable

Bring back JR and Tristan and this team is in the finals again no doubt.

Re: Cleveland has already extended a qualifying offer, which allows it to match any offer sheets Thompson signs with another team. No such offer sheets materialized, and at this late stage in free agency, no team outside of the Blazers or Philadelphia 76ers has the money to pay Thompson handsomely.

Re: And now that it's clear nobody else is willing to pay what Smith thought he was worth, the Cavs might even get a discount.

The Bleacher Report likes Cleveland's chances of signing both players.

Tristan Thompson doesn't have a choice. He isn't getting an offer sheet elsewhere, and if he does, the cavs will match. Otherwise, he's playing on his qualifying offer level. Jr Smith simply doesn't have any other suitors period. Bleacher report didn't really have to go out on a limb here

Starters: Irving, Shump, Lebron, Love, Mozgov
Backups: Mo, JR, Richardson, Thompson, Varejao
Bench: Delly, (#3 SG/SF), Jones, Harris, Kaun

At this point, really hoping we sign Kaun. He would be an upgrade over Perkins, as our 5th Big man.
Im confident we bring Thompson and JR back.

That leaves the roster with one open spot left, which I would like to see the team use it for another SF.

You can only have what 13 active roster spots. That means Joe Harris and probably Sir Dominik pointer will be in the d league. But chances are they leave a roster spot open to use the tpe.
