Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

He would have to accept the trade.

which he would never do, as it would expose him if he played on a different team. when you actually delve inside the numbers, thompson was worse last year than previous years offensively. his FT numbers and his fg% outside of 3 feet were all at career lows. the only thing that actually went up was his fg% within 3 ft, which is simply him being the benefactor of so many lobs and wide open layups off of missed shots.

I mean, this much is obvious to casual fans, does anyone really think that NBA GMs are totally ignorant to this? Thompson may well find out the hard way next summer.

Exactly. He has no offense, only thing he is good at is lobs. Terrible from the foul line, cant dribble, and has low BB IQ.
The Cavs cant sign any good FA to replace Thompson, so they have to pay him what he wants, or let him walk.
Thompson knows the Cavs cant replace him, so he wants the max.
That's great for him but screws our roster. I would rather let him walk after this year.

If we have to overpay him, we wont be able to trade him. Plus, next year, we wont be able to resign Mozgov (insane luxury tax).
At this point, I would rather sign Thompson for this year. Let him walk as a FA, and resign Mozgov next year.

Sasha Kaun visits Cleveland, but no deal yet between Russian center, Cavaliers

Veteran Russian center Sasha Kaun embarked on a mini-tour of Cleveland on Monday, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group.

His visit was for the purpose of house hunting, among other things, sources said.

Kaun, 30, and the Cavaliers have yet to reach an agreement. However, "it's only a matter of time" before a deal is struck, according to a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations. The Cavaliers' main focus is on locking up a longtime pact with restricted free agent Tristan Thompson.

Kaun is to depart town on Tuesday and it is anticipated that a deal will not be finalized before his exit, I'm told.

Kaun's scoping out of the city almost certainly ensures he'll finally make the jump to the NBA after playing seven years professionally for European powerhouse CSKA Moscow.

In Las Vegas, Cavs general manager David Griffin confirmed the team's interest, saying "we would love to have him if something could be worked out."

Griffin said then that the 7-foot Kaun, who posted career highs in points (9.9 per game) and rebounds (4.5 per game) in the Euroleague last season, was "somebody who could be rotational for us and if it could work out great."

Kaun was a member of the 2012 Russian National team coached by the Cavaliers' David Blatt. He would join Timofey Mozgov, Kevin Love, Thompson and Anderson Varejao as big men on the roster.

The Cavs' more-or-less final roster:

01. Lebron James
02. Kyrie Irving
03. Kevin Love
04. Iman Shumpert
05. Timofey Mozgov________
06. Tristan Thompson
07. JR Smith
08. Mo Williams
09. Richard Jefferson
10. Anderson Varejao
11. Matthew Dellavedova
12. James Jones
13. Sasha Kaun (?)
14. Joe Harris
15. Sir'Domenic Pointer

It looks like a slight upgrade over the team that finished the 2014-15 season. At least this team can go two-deep at every position, with Dellavedova and Jones (and Kaun?) playing minor roles instead of getting big minutes.

Still, this team will go as far as the Big 3 can take it.

The depth is definitely better this year. At least Delly will hopefully see more minutes at SG than PG and those minutes should be limited. I think they need to stay relatively healthy to win a title, but If you had given them this roster in the playoffs last year I think they would have had a better showing in games 4-6 of the Finals.

Hard to believe, but Mo Williams might have been enough to get the Cavs a title last year.

That's what I was thinking. Throw in RJ to help give Lebron some rest/floor spacing and they would have had an even better shot. Miller and Marion brought nothing but suck for the whole season. The goal this season should be to keep all the minute averages between 30 and 35 until the playoffs.

My thoughts on minutes this year:
1. Kyrie Irving (30) Mo Williams (18)
2. Iman Shumpert (21) JR Smith (17) Matthew Dellavedova (10)
3. Lebron James (30) Richard Jefferson (15) JR Smith (3)
4. Kevin Love (30) Tristan Thompson (18)
5. Timofey Mozgov (25) Tristan Thompson (13) Anderson Varejao (10)

Anyone else only sees minutes for injury or blowout.
