Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Talking myself into the Richard Jefferson signing. Obviously would be nice to get younger, but where exactly were those kind of targets going to come from?

Fully expecting RJ to follow the path of a guy like Vince Carter that dropped the reliance on athleticism and turned himself into a spot up shooter- I think he's already on his way to that transformation. Vinsanity attempted the 2nd most 3P's of his career at age 36 and made them at a 40% clip. Jefferson already has some of that skill especially on catch and shoot and especially on corner 3's (49% 2 years ago, 44% made last year). He's probably about an average defender for his position.

Add in that he'll bring the professional attitude and LeBron making teammates better- by demanding more and by being one of the best "pocket-passers" to set shooters up in rhythm- and I expect Jefferson to do pretty well in the 15-20 minutes he'll play. Barring a complete drop off, which is definitely possible at his age, I think this is pretty alright.

The Haywood contract will eventually be a Trade-Exception that can be used later in the year to upgrade (to the tune of ~$10M) where necessary by taking advantage of a team selling at the deadline. Cavs doing what they can with what they got. Just have to go out and win now.

Perfectly fine with the Jefferson signing. The corner three numbers, as others have alluded to already, are especially encouraging as he'll be getting a lot of those looks when he's out there with the core guys. Just keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't fall off the same cliff as Marion.

I don't pretend to understand, but how did BH make 2 mil last year with a team option for 10 mil this year?

It had something to do with being amnestied by Dallas giving him a chance to get a weird contract. The actual technical stuff how, no clue. But I do recall them saying it was because of that he got this contract.

Nothing surprising here. Right now the Cavs aren't interested in developing projects. I think the Euro-stash is the guy they wanted, but nobody who isn't on the current roster is safe if they get a deal they like. They'll be happy if they can leave guys in Europe until they are NBA ready.

Woah...

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Cleveland has traded Brendan Haywood and Mike Miller to Portland, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Surprised Lebron Authorized this... if he didn't then he's going elsewhere next year... same thing happened in Miami

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Portland will send two second-round picks to Cleveland, league sources tells Yahoo Sports.

Zac Jackson @AkronJackson
Portland will probably cut Miller and I am sure LeBron signed off on that.

Glad to clear that extra wasted roster spot.

$13.35M trade exception to use within the next year? That's a good sized contract to take on. Big flexibility later this year. Good to see this finally go down, better than expected even.
