Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

still semi-baffling what TT, JR and Delly are thinking
most likely they have not been given ANY competitive offers..
TT will most likely end up just where the Cavs last offered.. unless 1 more yr is added
JR's not gonna get one more dime than if he would have signed player option... and now, most likely a decrease could be in order
especially after Phil Jackson just publicly trashed him
Delly... love ya bro.. but do you really think you're worth $4-5M
you guys wanna come along for the ride... or you wanna be watching at home come May & June?

the cavs may throw JR Smith a bone and give him close to his player option level in exchange for a team option to try and keep him in line.

i could easily see delly playing on his qualifying offer this year and trying his luck in the FA market next season.

i have no idea what tristan thompson is doing. no teams have the cap room to make him any sort of legit offer, save for portland, who's blowing it up. if he tries to pull the stunt that he's going to become a UFA next year, good luck. he won't get 5 years $80 million next year no matter what the salary cap is. and that won't even account for the $7 million he'd be leaving on the table this year to pull that stunt. and, he's running a real risk of losing time with love back, a full season of mozgov, and potentially varejao. so, you're looking at holding out when there are no other suitors for your services, threatening to become a FA and possibly not get a deal close to what you've been offered this year, and potentially seeing a reduced role in the process, further limiting your value.

i'd say that's a lot of stupid right there, but this is in reference to the guy that didn't know what hand he was supposed to use to shoot a basketball until his 3rd year in the NBA.

Nobody is going to give TT anything because they know it will just get matched. It's probably more of the Cavs wanting the 5 year deal and TT wanting the 5th year to be a player option like Kyrie. He still isn't worth the 80+ mil that they offered so he needs to just take it. It isn't like he is going to suddenly become an great offensive player and be worth more than what they are offering now. It would be interesting to see what Delly is worth to the Cavs and the only way we'll see that is for him to sign elsewhere. I bet the Cavs are content to sit back and get him to play for his QO this year. If someone gave him a 3 year contract for 10 mil I don't know if they would match. With how much the tax is going to hurt this year I would see if they could sign JR to a 2 year deal for 10 mil (4 this year 6 next) and a team option for 8 after that. If he plays well he gets 18 over 3 years which is pretty good for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see BHC turn into a TPE and have the 15th spot on the roster stay open for a move going forward. I doubt they want 15 guaranteed contracts going into the season.

Richard Jefferson?

A backup for Lebron was a huge need. When Lebron would leave the game, the backup unit last year could never score.
Delly was never good at passing, creating, or shooting. Marion couldn't shoot, and Thompson...couldnt score either.
JR was the only person off the bench who could shoot and it was predictable.

This year we will have Mo, JR, Jefferson, Thompson, Varejao.
Four out of Five who can actually shoot. This second unit is much better.

I see Jefferson being a much needed upgrade from Shawn Marion.

I'm pretty happy about this also. Jefferson averaged 24.7 minutes last year for Dallas, so he shouldn't have any problem with 15 or so next year. This really helps the overall team depth as well.

I'd like to see JR back, and I've read some places that he could end up taking a pay cut from his opt-in salary of 6.4M. That seems kind of rough and I wonder if the ego hit could send JR back on the path to "bad JR". I'd like to see the Cavs offer him the 6.4 on the condition that he give them a team option for a 2nd year. Not quite the smack in the face of making him take a pay cut down to 4M, but the organization gets something out of it as well.

I'm not sure the Cavs can offer him more than 3.4 million or whatever, but I wouldn't offer him a dollar more regardless. He did this to himself.

Pretty good get for the Cavs to grab Jefferson.

They have his Bird Rights so they can pay him whatever they want up to the max. The only problem is that there's no use of paying him anything if you are getting bad JR. It would be nice if they could convince him to pull a Duncan and be happy to take less to be with a winner. That's why I think a 4/6/8 contract with the last year being a team option is good. He gets at least 10 guaranteed and 18 if he plays like he did with the Cavs last year. Looking back opting out was pretty dumb. If he had opt'd in and played like he did last year he would be in line for a raise.

Now that they signed RJ it makes JR even less necessary. If they give him 4 mil it will basically be paying 18 for him once the tax is paid. A backup unit of Mo, Delly, RJ, TT, and Andy isn't bad even with Jones and Miller(can't be worse than last year) still on the bench. JR makes them better I don't think they will regret letting him walk if it doesn't work out.

Can't give him such a contract. 7.5% is the max raise per year.
