Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

nope

10.5 and 2.8 trade exemptions is my understanding
Yeah reading they come across as 2 separate ones.

Figure they may not even use the smaller one and save themselves taking on that $2-3M salary. With tax multiplier that's $10M on the books Gilbert would have to pay. Might just be happy to cut that salary and roster spot and call it a day.

The Haywood one is still very nice though.

Plus they are getting some cash in the deal. Also, the difference between a vet min contract for someone like say tayshaun prince and what they would pay Mike Miller, taxes included does add up.

I agree that there are much better options for Miller's roster spot that can do more one both ends of the floor than he did last year for less money.

The thing I don't understand is Miller wanted to go so he would have a better chance to play and the teams that are listed as being interested in him are the Grizzlies, Thunder, Mavericks, and Warriors. The first 3 I can kind of understand even though we can debate how much a dude that can't play D and didn't shoot all that well would help any contender, but why would the Warrior even think about Miller? Even with all the injury problems the Cavs had in the Finals Miller couldn't get on the floor. If he just wants minutes you would think a team that could use a veteran presence and isn't going anywhere would be his best option.

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers have agreed to re-sign backup point guardMatthew Dellavedova, who reached cult-hero status during Cleveland's injury-plagued run to the NBA Finals as he filled in for Kyrie Irving.

Dellavedova, a restricted free agent, accepted Cleveland's qualifying offer and will return on a one-year deal worth approximately $1.2 million, a source with knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN on Monday.

By accepting the Cavs' qualifying offer, Dellavedova will become an unrestricted free agent next summer when the league's salary cap is set to balloon.

Another motivation for the timing of the deal, a source told ESPN's Marc Stein, is that Dellavedova wanted to get his contract situation resolved before competing for his home country of Australia in the FIBA Oceania Championship next month.

For a Cap-Strapped team, its great to have two trade exceptions. We were only able to add Mozgov by using a trade exception.
With 10M we could still add a quality player mid-season to bolster our depth.
After next year the cap balloons to the point where everyone (cept the cavs maybe) will have cap space.. so making a deal with a "Cap-strapped" becomes a relative term. It boils down to someone wanting to tank and that's about it.
