Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I'm gonna guess.. you can sign all the vets you want at the vet league min
and web said yesterday... he's a heavy lean this way

Good guess...

MINIMUM PLAYER SALARY EXCEPTION -- Teams can offer players minimum salary contracts even if they are over the cap. Contracts can be up to two years in length. For two-year contracts, the second season salary is the minimum salary for that season. The contract may not contain a bonus of any kind. This exception can also be used to acquire minimum salary players via trade. There is no limit to the number of players that can be signed or acquired using this exception.

Yes?

Look, you'll have two perimeter defensive stoppers. But, more importantly, you have someone that can guard the guys Lebron usually has to guard - giving Lebron more energy on offense, where he's most needed. So, yes, Wiggins instantly makes the Cavs a much better team.

i think there is alot of people that have extremely high expectations for a kid just coming out of college...he looked good on defense in summer league but to crown this kid kawahi leonard on defense is insane...will he be 1st team all defense someday? maybe...does lebron have 5 years to find out? not likely

Where did anyone here crown Wiggins as Leonard? Regardless, he doesn't need to be as good as Leonard on defense to be really good on defense and have a huge defensive impact on this Cavs team.

He's a better athlete than 99% of the league already. It won't take long to make an impact.

Wade vs Irving, Irving has only played 9 more games than Wade since entering the league, when healthy yes he's way less of a liability but saying he wont need to be nursed through the whole season, lets wait and see. Love vs Bosh, meh I'll give you this but Bosh at least lead some bad Raptors teams to the playoffs.

Yeah Irving v Wade isn't the best part of my argument. But it is like you giving me Love over Bosh... I got to give you Wade over Kyrie. But at least Kyrie has upside in that he is more likely to play through a whole season healthy than Wade will now. I know... a stretch.

IF Waiters isn't traded or riding the pine because he wont be a team player, or Waiter could continue to be a "meh" type player.

Traded away for what? If he goes to Minnesota, than Wiggins is the starting SG. But I am under the assumption he stays if Wiggins is gone. He is going to get minutes. And I doubt at first he will sulk. The auroa of LeBron will probably prevent that. Plus his agent will remind him to play ball cuz he won't get paid if he gets benched for sulking (that might be an issue in a year or two) Is it a chance he becomes a "meh" player? But I think it is a 80/20 type chance he becomes a solid 14-16 pts / game player that is a great 4th option.

Cool, who are we dumping in these trades and who are we getting back.. this "we can trade for players" gives you 0 leverage and you're back in the same situation we were with pre-college Lebron, of trading bad contracts & young players for aging veterans in this "win now screw the future scenerio".

But you forget there are plenty of teams that don't want to lose money, avoid going into the luxary tax and want to get rid of an overpriced player. Don't underestimate the fact that we can go to a team that is money tight, and offer to take a $12 million dollar a year player and they can get a player they can cut right away and owe him $0 and save the owner $15-$25 million dollars. (the Haywood contract) Is this player a star? No... is this player probably overpaid? Yep... but if he is a great fit for what we need (like a defensive center?) then while he won't be valuable to the team he is on, he would be a key piece for a NBA title in Cleveland... Deals like that happen all over the NBA every season.

Will we do that every year? No, but we probably won't need to do that every year. Cuz we do have alot of pieces, even after a Love trade, the only spot we are thin is center. After Love, Kyrie and Kyrie... it's not like we need stars. We just need glue guys, role players.

At this point, I don't even think the Bulls seriously expect to get Love, but rather are simply attempting to scare Cleveland into offering more than they should.

Re: It's suspicious that the leak is coming from the Timberwolves, who have been consistently leaking offers which has increased the bids for the All-Star, establishing leverage with Minnesota after Golden State had balked at including outstanding role player Klay Thompson in talks. There have been so many leaks in these talks that it's been reported various executives have been displeased with how Minnesota has handled it. But considering how much better the offers have gotten for Love over the past month, it's a pretty good tactic.

And apparently the Timberwolves are leaking trade offers to drive up Cleveland's offer too.

Cavs still front-runners for Love

The Cleveland Cavaliers cannot officially trade Andrew Wiggins before Aug. 23, but they remain the front-runner in the trade sweepstakes for the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Wolves, at present, are higher on a Cleveland trade package centered around Wiggins than any other offer on the table for Love.

ESPN.com reported Tuesday that the Cavaliers, meanwhile, are increasingly confident about their chances of landing Love and firmly believe they are progressing toward a trade framework that the Timberwolves will accept in exchange for the All-Star power forward, which would enable Cleveland to pair him with Olympic teammate LeBron James.

Yeah, but when have we ever trusted ESPN to be totally truthful, unbiased, and/or to tell the entire story?

Alot of people keep saying if we trade for Love, we would have nobody for the future on this team. I want to expand on that topic with a breakdown.

I am going on the assumption that a trade for Kevin Love will be Wiggins/Bennett and 1st round picks. I doubt Andy or Tristan get traded because they are LeBron people and if they do, we are getting more players. But for simplicity sake, I am just going by the main rumored trade.

If that trade happens this is what the Cavs roster looks like:

PG - Irving & Dellavedora
SG - Waiters/Joe Harris/Ray Allen* (If he signs)
SF - LeBron/Mike Miller & James Jones
PF - Kevin Love/Tristan
C - Varejao & Haywood

Really the only need left then is a Center. I hope we get one in the Kevin Love trade, but there could be something else out there that I am not aware of. But those 3 non-guarenteed guys we got from Utah could be sent to get some body at center.

So say we go with these guys this year... not bad, just one glaring hole at Center.

Next offseason Andy becomes a free agent. Good guess he comes back at a reduced salary to stay with LeBron. Tristan is due an extention too. And Love will opt out and re-sign a max deal with us. Only losses will be Allen & James Jones, but they could come back at vet minimums.

So it isn't like we have to make a ton of moves to fill positions. Our big move is the Haywood contract, we can bring in something. What? Well... that center hole is still there. Plus if we do lose Allen/Jones, I could see us getting some vet minimum guys chasing rings and/or mid-level exception type guys?

So it isn't like we have a lack of depth and need alot of players. This isn't a Miami situation where we need to find 5-6 bodies to fill out the roster. We also still have adequate players on this team surrounding the big 3. If we want to make a big move, we could trade Waiters then with the Haywood contract and get very solid pieces for this team.

Amico, the author of the article below in which it is suggested that these rumors/shenanigans are "textbook Flip [Saunders, the T-Wolves, head coach and Pres. of Basketball Ops]" yesterday tweeted that Cavs have not offered Wiggins in any trade proposal.

The longer this drags on, the more I really want the Cavs to call the T-Wolves' bluff.

Not that I beleive everything that Stephen A Smith says, but he claims that Golden State had Klay Thompson INCLUDED in a package for Love back before the draft and Flip didn't do it. Flip is probably just trying to save face at this point. He can't do a deal with the Cavs that doesn't include Wiggins after passing on Klay Thompson.

Love is a helluva player, but Wiggins potential trumps what he brings right now. And its not being scared to be great, its called we have more leverage than Minnesota so why fold to their pressure, if Love gets moved to someone else so be it. Just like you guys are saying we still can make other moves with all our picks, expiring contracts and etc..And this oh he only has potential yadda yadda so your saying your scared to take a chance on one of the better prospects in the last five years? No way I give Wiggins up for Love. He has the athleticism to guard 1-2-3's in the league, yes it is only potential but fuck man he can add so much more value on the defensive side of the ball and take a ton of pressure off Lebron on that end of the floor(yes, its only potential but you want to give that up without evening seeing how he fits?) Why is everyone in such a hurry to make the deal? Wiggins potential trumps any other offer out there and any offer that will be out there, Cavs know it , Saunders knows it. This will drag to the deadline IMO, I won't lose my head if we do eventually include Wiggins but I really prefer the Cavs not to. Either way this is a top three seed in the East for awhile, including this year.

And now a report that Mirotic had a no trade promise. Whether he got that in his contract, who knows. But that just took a dent from the Bulls so called trade.
