Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Well, that means the Cavs aren't concerned about other team's offers for Love and/or they have no intention of including Wiggins in a deal for him. 30 days is a long time to wait when other teams could be lurking...

if you consider marc stein credible then here is this:

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
ESPN sources say that, as things stand, Minnesota likes the Cavs' Wiggins-led offer better than anything else on the table for Kevin Love

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
But fact Cleveland now must wait 30 days before Wiggins can be legally dealt does put Cavs at risk for someone else trumping their offer

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Only Cavs, of teams in Love hunt, can offer potential superstar in Wiggins' class. But Flip Saunders, as we know, is a big Klay Thompson fan

What about adding other really good options in Free Agency instead of Love? Bledsoe and Monroe are really good options in my opinion. Bledsoe can do it all and allow Kyrie maybe to move over to a 2 guard position or Monroe to bolster the inside. A heck of a lot cheaper than Love would be and they keep most of their young talent on board as well.

More and more I'm leaning away from mortgaging the future for Love. It would be great to have him but not for everything the Twolves want.

We are over the salary cap right now. We can't sign any free agents unless it is at the minimum contract. The only way we can sniff Bledsoe or Monroe is a sign and trade. Too complicated to even think about the idea anymore.

The Cavs have the best player in the game (LeBron), one of the best young players in the game (Kyrie), and they have the assets to acquire another top-ten player (Love). And the fans still want to play the "wait until next year" game.

Unreal.

I totally agree. I really don't care what happen in 5 years when LeBron moves to PF and loses a step. Our real window is in the next 4 years. You worry about the future in the future, and it's not like Love is 32, he is 5 years younger than LeBron!

But, at the same time... I am more about value and historic precedent, and that means Love shouldn't cost Wiggins. And that is why I would try to get our cake (get Love) and eat it too (and keep Wiggins). But as time goes... it looks like other teams will not let that happen. Too many teams that want to trade for Love and being able to match/beat non Wiggins offers is really the only thing that will prevent it. I prefer not, but I prefer to get Love above all else.

LJB - honest question here, you've been by far the most vocal of get Love at all cost...

How does adding Love to the current roster make us any better than the Miami team from the past several years? Yes, the other than the "other" Big 2 are younger but haven't been to the playoffs. You've still got a team where Lebron is the only guy who plays defense. The bench is still a huge question mark.

Who does Cleveland add going forward if you've got Irving, James, Love eating up a sizable portion of the cap.

It makes us better because we don't have Wade that needs to be nursed the whole season. Love is better than Bosh, we have a guy in Kyrie that can take the load off Lebron having to have the ball in his hands every second of the game.

Don't pooh pooh Waiters. He will be a big key to this team if Wiggins and Bennet are traded and he is still here. And he would be better than any 4th player Miami had. Waiters will be playing alot when LeBron is on the bench and will be needed to lead the bench guys so Lebron can sit out an extra 5-10 minutes a night and not be forced to come back in as the bench squanders a big lead.

And I have said before, Gilbert doesn't care about the salary cap. As long as we have salaries we can trade for players (ie Haywood's $10 million + contract) we can bring people in and Gilbert won't care about paying the luxary tax. Something that Miami wasn't willing to do.

Defense? Yes... that will be an issue. But I have always heard defense is something you have to want to do. Has Kyrie or Dion ever wanted to play defense? With Lebron here will that change that? With Kyrie and Dion just giving effort on defense enough? Not to be a great defensive team, but maybe they can show they aren't horrible and can become an average to above average defense with just effort. It's not like they don't have tools, they just never gave a damn before.

This is a valid point. Byron Scott is essentially a playground coach, so it's not like he was instilling any defense in them. Mike Brown is a "defensive coach", but he was essentially a lame-duck coach by January, and I doubt that anybody was buying anything he was selling last season. If Blatt and his staff are anything near what they're cracked up to be, plus LeBron as a sort of "player/coach/mentor", it's entirely possible guys like Kyrie and Waiters finally show some semblance of defense.

Does anyone know the ramifications that the Wiggins deal has on us potentially signing Ray Allen? My understanding is that all other signings must be done when Wiggins is signed. If true it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do that when Allen is going to decide within the next week, and is leaning Cleveland.

Honestly if a lot of the what if's go in the Cavs favor I could see them challenging for the title this year with or without Love. With Love they hit the peak of their prime in the next 2 years. Without Love the peak will be in 4 or 5 years and last 5 or so years longer. Regardless of any moves made they have as good of a shot as anyone to get to the Finals this season.

Not only what you mention, but there isn't a guarantee that Love's presence trumps the presence of Wiggins and whoever else gets traded. If the Love trade goes down, I love our starting 5 but depth is an issue. Keeping the stars fresh through the regular season and playoffs is key.

Love definitely adds outside shooting, but he may only add marginally (if at all) to our rebounding.

Wade vs Irving, Irving has only played 9 more games than Wade since entering the league, when healthy yes he's way less of a liability but saying he wont need to be nursed through the whole season, lets wait and see. Love vs Bosh, meh I'll give you this but Bosh at least lead some bad Raptors teams to the playoffs.

IF Waiters isn't traded or riding the pine because he wont be a team player, or Waiter could continue to be a "meh" type player

Cool, who are we dumping in these trades and who are we getting back.. this "we can trade for players" gives you 0 leverage and you're back in the same situation we were with pre-college Lebron, of trading bad contracts & young players for aging veterans in this "win now screw the future scenerio"

I agree with you on this.. I would say look at college by Irving was hurt and Dion played Zone coming off the bench.

I keep hearing he would sign in September so not quite sure what wiggins contract does...keep in mind right now we have John Lucas and the others from the Utah trade on the books as well....i think

and by keep wiggins we are now a completely better team defensively? one guy changes that? a guy who hasnt played one NBA game ever?

Yes?

Look, you'll have two perimeter defensive stoppers. But, more importantly, you have someone that can guard the guys Lebron usually has to guard - giving Lebron more energy on offense, where he's most needed. So, yes, Wiggins instantly makes the Cavs a much better team.
