You really think someone was going to nab Mayfield if you traded down to say #2 (or 3 to fit your example)?
Opposite, someone also has to want to come up. Butch Davis ain't walking through the door. Giants know you're not taking Barkley, Jets blew their wad to get to 3. The trade downs from 4 were too far most likely. Hey, I get that you judge drafting by relative value at the spot... But sometimes your position.doesnt match your guy, and either you take your guy or you take value. Browns took their guys. None of it matters come September, in the end they have to play football. That's when you find out if they were good picks or not. Now is the part where you say, it's the browns and they blew it.

I wouldn't mind the Browns taking Will Hernandez out of the gate, and it has nothing to do with the Giants wanting him.

From 10,000 ft away;

  1. If you think Mayfield is The Guy then fine, trade down get the extra picks and grab him later. I assure you that outside of Mrs Mayfield, you are the only one alive that thinks he's the overall #1 pick.
  2. I appreciate the business side to finally taking a quality Buckeye but at #4 he's a stretch. See notes from above, trade down and get him later.

Dumbest organization in sports
I would otherwise be inclined to agree with you. But, here, I think the Browns did the right thing by not getting cute. First of all, they have a literal shit ton of picks, so they're not looking to grab a bunch more young talent in this single draft. Second, and like NF, I am not a fan of the Mayfield pick (I wouldn't have taken any of these QBs) if that was the guy they identified as the guy they wanted, then just take him. (On Mayfield, I'd also mention - with respect to his work ethic - he was a walk on... a walk on turned Heisman winner... he's a douche bag, but the Manziel comparisons are unwarranted.) As to Ward, again, I think they took him too high, though I also think Ward was a clear #1 and will start from day one in Cleveland, whereas (and having been in the pick Chubb at 4 camp) they let Chubb slip with a chance to maybe get a Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, Jaylin Holmes tyoe. I don't know that they're gonna manage - or that they necessarily want - a DE.. just saying.. the option is there...

And I just saw they took Nick Chubb after taking a tackle... (And with Thomas' retirement, they needed one). Id rather have Nick Chubb than Saquan Barkley. So far, and considering the off season FA moves, Dorsey is doing a damn good job. In my IMO

I like Nick Chubb. No problem with that pick from here. Personally, would have gone DE cuz they have El Guapo... but, that's me
I guess i just have a personal preference for Guice because of his running style. But I'm now seeing that he is sliding because he told teams he will kneel during the anthem in interviews. I'm not gonna get into my ideas on that, but that seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

After 4 years of watching him with the Niners, I don't think El Guapo is a feature back in the nfl. But the drafting of Chubb should allow them to limit him to 10-12 carries a game, where I think he'd be most effective.

fair enough

don't follow it that close but both seemed to be a reach. I would think you could have traded one of them down or let the Jets take Mayfield and grabbed Darnold, whatever.

It's the Browns. History tells me they fucked this 8 ways to Sunday.

Law of large numbers tells me they are due to back into one.

I hope that they both end up HOF'ers for you Browns fans sake. You've earned it.
What's kind of funny is that last summer, this was being talked up as one of the best qb classes to come along in years...comparable to 2004. Rosen/Darnold were all but written in stone as the top two picks with Allen as a wildcard. Then the season happened. Darnold turned the ball over at an alarming rate and laid a couple eggs in big games. Rosen dealt with injuries and questions about his attitude sprung up. Allen had a very "meh" year, not making the on field leap many expected. They all three got lapped by a smallish guy from an air raid offense that was viewed as a day 2 or 3 pick going into the season. Mayfield didn't even start rocketing up the charts until everybody started tearing down the supposed "big three." I view all four as significant gambles as opposed to guys you can fairly certainly look at as your franchise savior that you typically hope for taking them that high.

Maybe now that 3 more rbs have gone before guice we can put this one to bed.

Chubb might be a great kid, but i’d rather not take a kid who shredded his knee and had cartilage damage at the top of the 2nd round with other positions of need that need to be filled...

Btw do we have a left tackle?
