Guys, you have a QB. But he'd better be careful with the whole "Hue went to Cincy blah blah blah" crap. Grown assed men don't take kindly to those kind of comments, and the NFL is a small world.....and to be clear - it's not like he transferred from Texas Tech to Oklahoma, because, what dick would do that?

P.S. - they are 2-0 sans Hue. Be gracious. This team was 0-16 a season ago, yes?

The grown ass men on his own team seemed to love it. Spare us the bullshit.

How is that BS? That's not BS. This ain't college, it's business. The guy got fired, deservedly so. What other job was out there for him? The defensive coordinator ON THE SAME TEAM was paying players in the past to hurt opposing QBs, man.

I'm not saying I don't agree with the kid, but the Bengals are one of the filthiest teams in the NFL, man....they got people that intentionally hurt mofos cause they just don't like em. Playing em twice a year with this target on your back....

They finally...FINALLY...have themselves a qb. It he can avoid the injury bug and stay out of trouble, this outfit might finally have a chance of advancing past the laughingstock stage.

They need another good draft or two, but at least they look like they'll be competitive enough to justify watching and not being a total embarrassment.
This isn't a playoff team... but it's an "any given Sunday" kind of team that should get some home wins, and it's been awhile since Cleveland has had that.

I mean....of course the team is going to love it. The team loves it when somebody is a piece of shit and gets ejected for starting a fight and then riles the crowd up on his way out. That doesn't make it right.

Not that I'm anti-Baker here......just that "the team liked it" isn't a good justification for anything.

Agreed here. I'm not saying Baker isn't justified in being upset or anything at his treatment by the head coach. I understand he felt he was ready to start day one. But that ain't his call. Don't get me wrong - the way Hue addressed Baker on Hard Knocks looked gawd awful. Someone also mentioned Baker's interview with Clownherd. Who cares what he thinks?

BUT...

Pissing on a guy who is now with the same team who...
  • Has a player who intentionally twisted Cam Newton's ankle
  • Has a player who MAY HAVE intentionally torE Le'Veon Bell's ACL
  • Has a player who intentionally went after Martellus Bennett's knees
  • Has a player who intentionally gave Antonio Brown a concussion
...while said guy (who was the head coach) is good friends with his new boss...yeah, that's gonna go over well. We'll see on December 23rd...

I know Hue was a horrible head coach. Doesn't make him a horrible guy, and as I said earlier, the NFL is a very small world. He had help being horrible, though. Todd Haley challenged his authority the entire time, and I think he's a dirt bag and tried to sabotage some things there too.

P.S. - apparently, Mayfield went on ESPN First Take's Instagram feed and put this out there in response to Damian Woody's take yesterday:

https://nypost.com/2018/11/27/baker-mayfield-destroys-espn-analyst-over-hue-jackson-comparison/

"What I find funny about the whole thing, Baker Mayfield, didn’t he go from Texas Tech to Oklahoma? You went from Texas Tech to Oklahoma — two teams in the Big 12 — but you wanna argue, you wanna talk about … You want to talk about that. And that’s in college football. You wanna talk about guys trying to pay bills … You went from rival to basically another in the same conference," Woody continued.

Mayfield didn’t agree with Woody’s comments and fired back on "First Take’s" Instagram feed, under the post entitled "Baker Mayfield needs to grow up."

"Not even comparable … I didn’t lose 30 plus games be fake and then do that … I wasn’t gonna have a scholarship. Good try though buddy," Mayfield wrote, noting how Texas Tech was planning to move on from him.

Now, he's getting pissy with the media, eh? Ballsy from a guy with a total of 8 whole starts in his NFL career....

That’s always been him, he takes everything personally and burns on it. And I don’t know if it’s good or bad to fire back, but who gives a fuck if the guys in the hot take shows have hurt feelings?

But see, that's the thing. Cowherd, Stephen A, Skip, those clowns? Who cares what they say. They're just media talking heads.

HOWEVER...

Damien Woody isn't a talking head. The guy is a two time Super Bowl Champ and a Pro Bowler who played 173 games.
Deion Sanders isn't a talking head. The guy is a two time Super Bowl Champ, 8 time Pro Bowler with a bust 59.9 miles south from where Baker plays.
LaDainian Tomlinson isn't a talking head. The guy is a five time Pro Bowler, league MVP with a bust 59.9 miles south from where Baker plays.
Cris Carter isn't a talking head (as you well know). He too has a bust 59.9 miles from there and played at some obscure school in Ohio somewhere....:biggrin2:

When cats like that talk, you should listen. Baker is arrogant (has always been, and it's served him well his whole life), but he could afford to be that way. Doesn't work well when you are paid to do what you do that way. There's a locker room element, and a relationship element here.

From Hue's point of view...

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft...r-mayfield-until-five-weeks-before-nfl-draft/

"I respect (the speculation),'' Jackson said. "Anytime you draft a quarterback at No. 1 overall, everyone wants to see him play, but I've made a true commitment to our football team. Tyrod Taylor's going to be the starter. Baker's going to compete and however that unfolds it unfolds, but right now Tyrod is the starter.''

Jackson has no doubt learned a lesson from the last two seasons, when then-rookie Cody Kessler went winless in eight starts in 2016 and 2017 second-round pick DeShone Kizer was 0-15 during his rookie campaign. Neither quarterback is still on the Browns' roster.

"If Baker can understand the National Football League and all the rigors and the grinding that you have to go through, I'm not going to ever stop a player from being the best he can be. But we have a plan and I want to work that plan as much as we can,'' Jackson said. "Now, can a player supersede that? You never know. I haven't had that happen, but right now this team is going to be led by Tyrod Taylor.''

Maybe he wanted to see how he handled the 2nd team QB duties? No idea, but the guy did still make the then on paper sound decision to make Taylor the #1 (guy got the Bills to THE FREAKING PLAYOFFS).

CC said that he's known Baker going on 5 years now, and he thinks that when the guy sees the optics of it, he'll tone it back and think he could have handled this better.

Lastly - if Skip Bayless and Brady Quinn are your character references in this matter....

They were players...and now they are paid media wonks. Look, I get it, and his cockiness can rub me the wrong way too, I’m old school. But being old school is also pulling him aside privately and saying “look son, here’s how it works in the league. You want one of these? (A bust) learn to channel this and ignore that and do the other.” If Jim Brown is talking to him, or Joe Thomas (even though he does a podcast), or Leroy Kelly, or Joe D, or Clay Matthews, or other Browns legends are talking to him, I’m betting he is listening. But if guys want to talk to him through the TV on hot take shows while they get paid a shit ton to do it as “entertainment”? Yeah, I’m basically blowing that off too. You might as well say HS kids should take recruiting advice from Derpstreit
