Cleveland Browns (2016 thread of unrelenting dumpster conflagration)

Josh is probably the better QB of the Browns bunch but I do not think that is going to make a difference. I believe that the starting job is Griffin's to lose and he would have to perform extremely bad for him to lose that role. You saw him firsthand so I might be wrong but I just think Griffin is their man.

Oh no, he certainly is. RG3 is getting almost all of the first team snaps. However it feels like Hue is trying to make his biggest splash in Cleveland by having Robert recapture his rookie season stats.

Most of what I saw was limited and quite vanilla (especially the defense) however there were several (what would have been) sacks on Robert from pulling down the ball, failing to find his secondary read and such.
He also doesn't anticipate his receivers breaks in zone as well as McCown. I have 3 instances in my head when I saw that in practice when both sides went live.

I'm not saying Griffin 'can't' QB for us, I'm also not saying he wouldn't be effective doing so. However if training camp is where you earn your starting spot, then to me at least, it looks like the spot has been handed with the opportunity to fail coming later.

He's got to stay healthy too. And I think Hue's #1 priority this season is to get these guys to come to play every week and compete so they can actually see what they have in all these young guys. That evaluation job becomes more difficult, both motivation and execution-wise if you have to play a QB whose just not ready. Given the investment, possible return of Josh Gordon, Hue's apparently liking of Mr Pryor, etc, you have to think they'd like to keep 7 if the can, and throw the ball a lot... so, I can see where they view Josh as very valuable. Further, he wouldn't be going to Dallas to start, so, not like we're keeping him from that.

If anyone can get the best out of a QB, it's Hue. We got to see Dalton at his most efficient last season. He always showed signs of improving but never really put it all together until last season. That broken thumb killed us, and it was a stupid play that he did it on. Hue has his fair share of WTF plays, but he makes up for it by drawing up plays to stretch defenses, with the right personnel.

If the season started today, Terrelle Pryor would be starting at WR.

They probably should try him at RT because he might play just as good there as he would at WR and he might be better than the guy that they currently have as the starting RT.. Plus, it will not make any difference who plays at WR because whoever the quarterback is for the Browns would never have time to get the ball out of his hands when he jumps back to "pass"..

So, turns out, it's not actually permissible for the quarterback to climb into the stands and then pass the football. Some sort of archaic rule about being within the boundaries where the game is being played...

It's a sad day when your own teammates are laughing at you. Or, as they call it in Cleveland, Friday.

Ehhh. First pre-season game, not going to read too much into things other then it'll probably be another long season.

Let's be honest, this year is for finding out if RG3 can be at least a slightly above average QB or we're going for the #1 overall pick.
Toss in the amount of youth we have... I wouldn't be shocked to see JT, Haden and a few other guys moved mid way through the season for picks.

The only thing that last night's game is worth is showing that cam erving is a stiff that might get rg3 killed.
