Run defense is still a joke
oh, I disagree, I think the game also showed us that the Browns might give up a record amount of safeties this season.
Meh, preseason game 2, none of the game management stuff or punting vs going for it with the 14th string in bothers me. That the defense looks hapless, however... sucks. But predictable.Last night the Falcons killed the Browns in T.O.P. They had twice the number of rushing attempts, twice the number of passing attempts and twice the yardage as the Browns did...in the same number of possessions. Strangely, the Browns averaged 6.1 yds per play to Atlanta's 6.3 but that statistical anomally is where any comparisons between a pro team and a D1AA team end.
Even worse, these sackless fucks punted the ball back to Atlanta with just over 4 minutes remaining when down by 9 points in a meaningless game. So, Atlanta just did what they did all game, which was unconsentual sex the ball down the Browns throat and run all the time off the clock. It's the preseason but the Browns are already in full Brown mode. It was a 4th and 2 at the 39, at least try to win the game pussies.

I get it... need to see guys play special teams too though, that's gonna get some guys to the next cut. Gonna be a long season, plenty of chances to take risks or be the Browns. Prolly both. Hues biggest challenge is gonna be to keep them competing and engaged for all 16 games, he know that he's got to see what he's got. If taking chances helps, he will do it. There will be times where he wants to see them grind too. Second half last night was to see guys play. Shit, maybe he wants to see more snaps on D to see guys. It was a snuff film but... hey whatever, find some guys who can play. You're right about the defense. What bothers me is that it is a perfect time with nothing on the line to try to be aggressive and they were just weak. Weak on defense, weak on offense (though not as bad as the defense,) weak minded. That weak mentality is going to carry over in to real games. Even if the offense puts points up, the defense is going to give them right back to go along with 10 minutes off the clock.
Preseason is when guys get their shots that they don't normally get. It's when teams get to work on game scenarios with no consequence. The Browns punted those opportunities away. Next week is the dress rehearsal. Do they work on those then or treat that like a real game?
You are right though that the guys in were bottom of the depth chart. Those guys won't be in with a real game on the line. It just seems like the coaching staff can still send a message that resonates throughout by saying that they are going to try to win instead of tuck and run.
