Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

If the debate is between Bortles, Manziel, Carr, or Bridgewater then I think the best answer is to wait and do this again with Winston, Mariota, Hundley, or Petty.

I wouldn't mind that except that the Browns hopefully won't be high enough in the draft (I probably say that every year) to get one of the top QB's next year or else they are going to be going in with a new coaching staff and front office again. I wish a couple of those guys had come out this year because I loved the thought of getting Bortles with the 26th or in the second round. If they have their eye on one of the QB's next year I wouldn't be shocked to see them trade the 26 for someone's #1 next year. Unless they really like Tanney they still need to sign a couple FA's to challenge Hoyer. Of the above QB's Freeman would probably be the best bet as long as he came cheap. Might be a cancer if he lost to Hoyer.

That chorus has changed after a full year of football. What's the problem..?

It might be a problem if all the guys people want to wait on turn into turds in the next year again and the Browns still don't have a QB. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the DRAFT A FRANCHISE QB HERP DERP camp, but spending this year's draft picks based on what you think you might be able to get next year is a bad idea, as your counterpoint kind of illustrates.

There isn't anyone talking about spending picks this year based on what might be available next. Fact is, players that looked viable a year ago don't always pan out. It honestly feels like you're saying that we should take Bridgewater (or any other player, specifically QB) because he was coveted after the Sugar Bowl last year?

Of course I was up until nearly 5am this morning and have been drifting in and out of sleep for a while now.

I'm chaffing a bit from the fence I'm sitting on with ANY player @ 4. All have question marks. Clowney has a questionable attitude; Watkins has strength question marks, all the QBs have question marks and do the Browns need another LT when Thomas is entrenched there?

One thing is certain, the Browns need all kinds of help on offense. WR's are reasonably deep through the 3rd and RB's are pretty deep through the mid 3rd. OG are not to deep but they Browns need to find a guy that fits their scheme.

On defense they need to fill some positions on D (ILB, CB and FS). From what big boards I have seen, the draft is thin at FS (Dixon (Alabama) and Pryor (Louisville) are projected 1st rounder picks with a significant drop off after those two. ILB has Mosley in the 1st but nothing much until the 3rd. CB on the other hand is pretty much a judgment call from Mid-1st to Mid-2nd.

Bottom line is the Browns need to get better on offense and need to add the best talent on the board at RB (Hyde, Sankey or Mason in that order), WR (Watkins, Lee, Robinson or Matthews in that order), OG (Filo or Watson) or OT (Matthews or Robinson then slide Schwartz to G) and then QB later Mettenberg, McCarron, or even Taj Boyd in the 6th or 7th if he's there). At this point in time, I do not think Bortles, Bridgewater, or Manziel are better options than Hoyer going into next season or are the best choices @ 4.
