Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

I know that tsteele disagrees with the staff about this signing but the guys started for the Super Bowl champions for quite a few games
Cleveland Browns agree to terms on two-year deal with free-agent guard Paul McQuistan from the Seattle Seahawks

dude was rated below o'neil cousins by PFF rankings. That being said, that included him starting 6 games at LT when Okung got injured. Going strictly by his guard metrics, he's decidedly average at best. Signing him to a one year deal makes sense if you plan on taking a guard early that you can plug in and start from the get go, as it basically allows McQuistan to be a backup to the rookie and/or force a competition between himself, pinkston, et. all.

Agree. I read more about him and it looks like he would just be a good backup or help a rookie get acquainted with the pro game.

See where Sobo ssort of likes Smith from Wyoming and also mentions Linsley as a possible pick if Mack does not sign.

Backup at best. Seattle's guard play was pretty atrocious all year. Depth is nice, but if he's starting then Hoyer is going to be crushed. Especially when you grade as one of the worst pass blockers in the league.

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine says it's possible he will start a rookie quarterback this year, and he's looking for that 'it factor'
I do not know how much of this article to believe because I think a lot of it is smoke for other teams

so, they basically like all the prospects that are generally considered to be top 5 picks, including the qb's, but won't attend qb pro days, only private workouts, but would draft any one of about 6 different guys at #4.

Browns notebook: GM Ray Farmer says ‘conversations have already begun’ with potential draft-day trade partners

Consider the Browns open for business. [GM] Ray Farmer made it clear he's open to wheeling and dealing in May's draft, and he has already put feelers out to potential trade partners. The Browns have 10 picks in this year's draft, so they have plenty of ammunition to maneuver. "Those conversations have already begun," Farmer said Monday at the NFL owners meetings. "It might be interesting. It's something to keep in the back of your mind. I don't know if there's any definitives at the moment. I think they're all kind of spur of moment when you're in there, you're on [draft] day and there's a player that you see that's available, and you decide that you want to go up." ... The Browns have two picks in the first round (Nos. 4 and 26 overall) and another early in the second round (No. 35).

Mike Pettine: QB class is so deep that Browns might draft two

Will the Browns draft a quarterback with the fourth overall pick in this year’s NFL draft? Or will they pick a quarterback later in the draft?

According to Browns coach Mike Pettine, the answer to both of those questions could be, “Yes.”

Pettine said at the league meeting that it’s possible the Browns will draft two quarterbacks.

“This is a deep quarterback class, and that is why. It’s deep and it’s varied,” Pettine said.

If the Browns take a quarterback at No. 4, it would be Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel or Central Florida’s Blake Bortles. The Browns also own the Colts’ first-round pick, No. 26 overall, which could be used to take a quarterback like Fresno State’s Derek Carr or Eastern Illinois’s Jimmy Garoppolo. In later rounds they could go after Alabama’s AJ McCarron, LSU’s Zach Mettenberger, Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas or Pittsburgh’s Tom Savage.
