Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

It's still possible if after a month or so and Mack hasn't signed either an offer sheet from another franchise OR signed the transition tag that the Browns can drop the transition tag and sign Mack to a long term deal, which I think is most likely. Once other teams fill up their needs via the draft and FA, Mack's agent will be left with no choice but to crawl back and hopefully sign something like a 5/28 deal. Yes, that's a lot for a center, but I'm willing to overpay a little to keep him long term.

i doubt he'll do anything of the sort. it certainly appears that the moment it appears cleveland will procure his replacement, mack will sign that tender, cash in big this year, then try his luck as an UFA next offseason.

I read something today that he may try to get a team to offer him a 1 year deal similar to the transition tag, but with wording that he can't be tagged next year. If he signs the tender this year I'm pretty sure the Browns could still franchise him next year and he is still stuck in Cleveland although for a ridiculous amount of money for 2 years. If he really doesn't want to be in Cleveland there has to be some sort of sign and trade option like in the NBA. Sign him to the deal he wants and trade him for a late first or early second round pick.

BTW I'm pretty sure Greco is his replacement so we would just need another guard.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...y-a-team-by-team-look-at-cap-space-available/

Top 5 teams with most cap space

Team-by-team salary cap space:

Oakland Raiders: $32,299,198
Cleveland Browns: $31,828,788
New York Jets: $27,899,282
Cincinnati Bengals: $26,607,666
Jacksonville Jaguars: $25,239,764

I'm not sure if that includes Mack's transition tag which has to be set aside or Bess's voided contact (I don't think it does since I'm imagining that will be a process that will take some time.)

In short, Browns still have loads of money.

http://www.cleveland.com/nfl-draft/index.ssf/2014/03/quarterback_is_still_the_posit.html

Brugler thinks they go Bridgewater/Shazier.
Burke thinks they go Manziel/Matthews.
Goodbread thinks they go Mack/Carr.
Rang thinks they go Bortles/Su'a-Filo.
Norris thinks they go Bridgewater/Lee.
Prisco think the go Bridgewater/Benjamin.
McShay thinks they go Manziel/Cooks.
Davis thinks they go Bridgewater/Su'a-Filo.
Kirwan thinks they go Bortles/Benjamin.
Kiper thinks they go Bortles/Benjamin.
Galko thinks they go Watkins/Manziel.

My personal preference at one point was Watkins/Su'a-Filo but that was based upon bringing in a free agent QB to compete with Hoyer. Doesn't look like that is happening so I agree they must address the QB situation early. In that case my hope is they go QB/WR/OG in some way with their first three picks. Can they can draft one of Bortles or Bridgewater and then grab Su'a-Filo with their second first round pick? I would be happy with that. Then maybe best available outside receiver in the 2nd (which multiple scouts/execs/prognosticators have said is one of the deepest positions in this draft)...hopefully someone like Benjamin or Matthews is still around at 35. Having said that it would also not surprise me to see them go with Shazier in the 2nd if he is still on the board.

I never understood the idea of "addressing" the QB situation by taking a high 1st round pick on an extremely questionable player that in other drafts would not sniff the first round.

Fuck a 1st round QB. Especially this year.

Slightly random w/the current conversation, but what are thoughts on Christian Jones (FSU - ILB)? Any chance he is there at 26? I know we addressed w/Dansby, but that is obviously short term. I still think ILB is a position that requires immediate attention. Among others......just haven't heard much chatter about him. I'm a fan.

Last I heard/read, he was projected as a 3rd/4th round guy.
