Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Very happy with the deal. Curious what the first year pay breaks down, roster bonus, etc etc. These contracts are favorable to the team of late, very interesting.

Perhaps Tate knows he needs to prove he can stay healthy. For the love of God and country, I hope he does.

Sounds like a good deal for the Browns. If he blows the doors off this season you try to extend him for a few extra years. If Hyde inexplicably falls to the 3rd I'd still take him.
No reason at all not to pursue other backs...we have Lewis coming back but it is a 2-3 back league now, so they should be keeping their options open. This does allow them not to overdraft one though, so that is great.

they need to throw some money at a cornerback any cornerback. I know there are some that might be available in the first-round but we have so many needs I cannot believe that they have not thrown any money at a cornerback in free agency and the majority of them are now gone. If nothing else, we need some depth at that position and other positions!

If you really need a corner, you can get a really good one late in the first this year. No corner like Haden to take early this year...I seriously only have two words for you guys. Johnny. Football.

See... told ya not to hate Tate til you saw the terms. For the price... I have no problem with it. Actually... for the price the Browns would be stupid to not sign him. He is your starter and the for the price, it won't stop them from taking a 3rd-5th rounder for added depth.

There's a small chance that the Browns pick up Rodgers-Cromartie.

CB is deep in this draft. They can probably get a pretty good one in round 2, or even 3 this year.

Rumors are swirling that if Rodgers-Cromartie makes it out of NY he will talk to the Browns... Problem with him though he turned down 6 years & $56M because only about $5M or so was guaranteed... not sure its smart to give a Cromartie that long of a deal, i'd be ok with a couple year deal with a decent amount of guaranteed money.

Throw some money at him. We have enough and we have to spend it sooner or later. I just hope that he leaves New York without signing with one of those teams because I do not know how many cornerbacks are left in free agency. I know that we can draft one but we have other holes that need filled with draft picks.

$56 mil means nothing if only 5 is guaranteed. Give him a 10 mil roster bonus + signing bonus based on a fair guaranteed number and 3 years of lower base pay. Add 2 years of higher base pay on the end to raise up the total value, but it really works out to be a 3 year contract. Final numbers something like 45 mil for 5 years with 20 guaranteed.

Problem is they have to keep enough cap space to match a Mack contract. Luckily They already have the tag set aside for him so I'm not sure how much more than that anyone would be able to work into a contract. I can't see a team chewing up $20 mil of cap space this year to structure a deal the Browns can't match. Mangold got 55 with 22.5 guaranteed.

Weeden signs two-year deal with the Cowboys. Watch the ass become the next Roger Staubach.

Only if he makes it big in real estate.

Of course Weeden is a Staubach clone, just without the dashing good looks, athletic ability, military service, business acumen, championships, Heisman Trophy, wide-ranging popularity and leadership qualities.
