Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Did we not want to attempt to interview Bowles? The man at least runs a similar system to what we have now.

Schwartz and a 4-3 could be a disaster.
 why would Cleveland do the rational thing. I called this crap when we switched to a 3-4 last year that whenever the coaching change happened they would bring in someone who coached a different style... Means last years draft is wasted. Mingo isn't a 4-3 DE or LB.

Might as well trade Mingo if we do. He hasn't played anywhere near enough LB to be effective in coverage. Too small to play with his hand in the ground against the run. I mean, schematically speaking, I guess it is possible to keep him for that joker role Von Miller is used in. That would require significant adjustment including playing SLB in our base defense.

Where would Kruger play? DE?
We might have an even bigger LB moving to a 43 look than before we switched to Hortons schemes.

I don't like the McDaniels talk because they are already handcuffing Ryan Mallett and Matt Cassel to him.

Pairings I like (HC and 1st round pick):

Jim Caldwell + Blake Bortles (not sure how likely that is with Caldwell being an OC in the same division)
Gus Malzahn + Johnny Football

I admit I don't know much about Dan Quinn. Obviously Seattle's defense was spectacular but I don't know if he is really HC material. If the Browns go with Quinn I could see Barr from UCLA as the 1st pick. Here's the latest from profootballtalk.com:

Browns: Fired coach Rob Chudzinski on Sunday. Reportedly interviewed Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Wednesday. Will interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Saturday. Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase won’t interview until the Broncos’ season is over. Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles hasn’t decided whether to be interviewed. The Browns reportedly have interest in Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, and former Lions coach Jim Schwartz.

I guess I do not understand all the negativity about Johnny football. Playing college and playing professional football are two very different things. The one thing that I do know about him is that he is pretty accurate when it comes to throwing the ball and could become even better with more tutelage.

A lot of it is for off the field issues/antics. Also I think its been talked about he's likely 6' or under and at most 200lbs. Think Mike Vick without the speed but with better accuracy. Vick couldn't stay healthy as a smaller QB that runs, given Jonny's flare for the dramatic and the fact he likes to "improvise", He might be great first half the year but he'll get worn down or injured. He's a great college football QB. NFL is still TBD and I really hope the browns don't waste a pick on him unless its later in the 2nd or after

Wait, are they seriously hiring a DC before hiring a head coach?
I do not think that Jason LaCanfora knows everything but quite a few of these guys are represented by the same agent.
LaCanfora also reported that the Browns are expected to hire fired Lions coach Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator, but that's contrary to CEO Joe Banner's statement on Monday that his new coach would be given free rein to hire his staff.

piggybacking

Schwartz, who's also represented by Sexton, may or may not end up in Cleveland, but it's still expected to be the new head coach's decision. Schwartz began his career with the Browns in 1991 under Lombardi and Belichick, and has maintained close ties with Lombardi ever since.

pretty much confirms McD's is the man they want if they are hiring Schwartz.... I do not want this guy anywhere near Cleveland.

I guess off the field antics/issues in college do not bother me when it comes to selecting a player for the NFL. I know he was somewhat of a "character" but if he can play football that is fine with me. I am with you to a certain extent In that I would not take him with my fourth pick but if he is still there later in the first round and we have not selected a QB I would take a shot. There are quite a few QB's in the NFL that are about the same heighth.

Not really
http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.co...oes-height-matter-for-nfl-quarterbacks/22067/

this doesn't include 2013 but in 2012 there were only 2 starting QBs listed at 6'. 0 under that. 2 QBs listed at 6'1".

and this interesting factoid
Not a single quarterback under 6’0” has been drafted in the first two rounds since the 5’10” Ted Marchibroda went No. 5 overall to Pittsburgh in 1953.

If he measures 6' at the combine he'll be taken if he's under that his stock will plummet

See, I can care less about the off field stuff. I don't like him because of what else you said, I doubt he is even 6 foot tall and I HATE his mechanics. Everytime I watch him he is throwing off his back foot as like he is jumping from the ground to make long throws. While he does improvise... he doesn't need to! My wife mentioned he has to have ADD or something he is so jittery in the pocket.

Perfect example is the play in the cotton bowl where he jumps around being almost tackled and then finds the guy open in the flat(that everyone was saying was a great play). First off he was NEVER pressured... HE CHOOSE to run into pressure, all he had to do was sit in the pocket. Then in the replay, they were showing what the route was... the initial receiver WAS open. All Manziel had to do was throw to the back corner of the endzone.

I see that alot while watching him... no pressure and he decides to do the manziel thing by running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Sorry... he is going to be HORRIBLE in the pros. (well, unless Philly gets him, or a coach that will run a more zone read type offense) He will be a pure system based guy. If he is in any basic pro offense he will not hit the open guys per the play design and always play backyard football. Will he make great plays? Sure... but he will get his head knocked off before leading a team to the playoffs.

:lol:bardi and Banjo Banner are killing me
Cleveland Browns: ESPN Insider Tony Softli tweets, "OU head coach and Ohio native Bob Stoops may have the inside track on the Cleveland Browns opening." Softli is a former vice president of player personnel for the St. Louis Rams and former director of college scouting for the Carolina Panthers.
