Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

From ESPN Insider...
The five-year, $43 million extension that the Houston Texans gave to Arian Foster earlier this month made it clear that there was little room for Ben Tate in their plans. Now we're hearing whispers that the Texans may trade Tate to the Cleveland Browns.

"May sound dumb," writes Lance Zierlein of the Houston Chronicle, "but I would deal Ben Tate if the price is right. Texans can find fits for backup in round 3 or 4 and sign a cheap veteran."

I'm not necessarily pro-Flynn and I'm not anti-Colt either. I'd be fine with the Browns standing pat at QB and trying to surround him with some talent for a change. Since the Browns seem hellbent on making a move at QB though, I'm simply rooting for what I feel are the least stupid options under that category.

I realize the different rumors have to be coming from somewhere, but I honestly think most of it seems like the mediots out there are driving the Browns interest in a QB more than the Browns are themselves...

was hoping we could of resigned hillis for a 1 year deal around that price, if not lower, but i think he burned his bridges here...i think at this point going after Tate is a good idea as long as we dont have to give up too much to get him

According to schefter, hillis signed with the chiefs and steinbach was released. It's on his Twitter but I'm on my phone so I can't link at the moment.

Edit: 1 year, $3 million deal for hillis

Steinbach was released earlier today. Heard it around 4:10pm, Browns made an official announcement about an hour or so later.

Browns seem to act like a team happy to be mediocre and not truly focused on being a contender... I just don't see a fire or rage in their build...

Will be interesting to see if they actually improve on their losses... Hilles, Steinbach and Pashos.. they certainly didn't improve by switching fullbacks (Vickers for Marecic).. that was a BIG step backward

the legend of lawrence vickers is one of the biggest perpetuated myths in football. it's staggering. guy was a backup last year for a reason.

i think you're confusing fire and rage with stupid FA contracts.

No.. I give myself more credit...

but Vickers still > Marecic .. kid could not get to the hole fast enuf... and it cost us dearly last year... stunted our entire running game.. which stunted any possibility of having a passing game... which eliminated any thought of an offense

Sometimes you just have to overpay when you're not a Superbowl contender and trying to get there (plus Cleveland weather).. not stupid overpay but within a reasonability threshold

I'm looking for growth... Adding player X > Hilles; adding Player Y > Steinbach .. how much longer will they continue upgrading 2-3 positions a year... we need upgrades in 15 spots

Looking at how some of 2011's bottom feeders have done this offseason so far, I think the clowns are going to have a legit shot at picking #1 next year. Most of the really bad teams last year (StL, TB, Jax) have made real efforts to improve themselves. Minnesota may be the only real competition. The clowns need to take the Barkley sweepstakes seriously. If they win a couple of pointless games, and end up 5-11/6-10 and wind up picking #4-7 overall, they're fucking retarded.
