Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

It's Cleveland though. Blowin' first round picks on Qbs since...well...since they've returned to the league. I seriously hope they don't take Tannehill at #4, that dude does not warrant that kind of early pick.
They've drafted two QBs in the first round in their 13 drafts...hardly "blowin' 1st round picks on qbs since they've returned to the league".

Assuming Kolb gets cut I would go after him rather than Flynn. He has had success in a system like the Browns run and he will probably be cheaper than Flynn at this point.
Good God, no. He played like [Mark May] last year with Larry Fitzgerald to throw to...and he has an injury history. Unless Miami drives Flynn's price up insanely high, I think they may end up pretty similar in salary. Flynn is relatively unknown, but McCarthy knows how to develop QBs and speaks very highly of him...I'd rather take the chance on him than Kolb. That said, I doubt they'll pony up enough dough to sign him...or anyone of significance, really.

the worst thing we could do is sign Flynn...just has the makings of turning out horribly. In fact, it has all the makings of Kolb to Arizona...

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who remembers this guy at LSU. I'm not a believer...at all.

Put some young offensive talent around Colt and address QB next year if need be...

So in other words the worst thing that happens is that they sign him and nothing changes at all?

Flynn = no Tannehill. Plus he wouldn't cost any draft picks, just cash. Cash is worthless to the Browns because they lack the capacity to spend it on anything worthwhile. If they don't spend it on Flynn they'll just piss it away on some other bum instead.

The rumor is $20M guaranteed...I just think that is ridiculous for a guy who was seen as a Trent Dilfer in college. Certainly players develop, but this guy has average arm strength and his pedigree is based off 1 game last year and who he has backed up for 3 years.

They don't need to draft Tannehill either...that'd be equally stupid.

And I'm glad the didn't give away all their picks like Washington did b/c that was stupid as well.

I am curious as to why everyone who thinks Colts arm isn't strong enough, now believe Flynn can succeed here? Lambeau is certainly cold, although they do run heaters under the field, but they don't have consistent 20 mph winds in Nov/December. If we sign Flynn, I'm giving it less than a year before people start griping about why we put so much stock in a back-up QB with an average arm...

not for nothing, but matt shaub had about the same resume when he was traded.

and $20 million guaranteed isn't much at all, especially if it's front loaded, even more so if they roll most of it into this year. it could easily be a kolb type contract that would allow cleveland to get out with minimal impact should be totally tank.

Report: Browns seek trade for Houston RB Ben Tate

Mar. 14, 2012 8:41 a.m. - by Marty Gitlin

The Browns are reportedly interested in trading for Houston RB Ben Tate, according to NationalFootballAuthority.com. Tate, who blossomed in 2011 and rushed for 115 yards against the Browns, would likely replace free agent Peyton Hillis as the team's featured back.

Interesting. Oddly enough, could have drafted this guy if they hadn't traded up for fucking Hardesty. :!

Matt Schaub has a legit NFL arm and was a surgeon in college with mediocre talent around him. And I think if you asked the Texans today if they overpaid for him, I think they would say "yes". TJ Yates almost looked equally as good as the guy fresh off his career at UNC.

I don't want to rely solely on college tape, but Matt Flynn was the reason teams thought they had an outside chance of beating LSU in 2007. He has 1 monster game against Detroit and has been riding pine in Green Bay and now people want to throw $20M at him. I just don't see it...

Sitting behind Aaron Rodgers may have made him a better QB but it didn't give him the same arm, size, mechanics....I understand the importance of finding a guy at QB in the NFL, I just don't think the Browns need to go after a 1 game wonder. $20M is a lot, IMO, for what we know about him.

This!

I remember speaking in tongues when the fucking FO did this move. I could never understand that move up for Hardesty. The kid was broke in college, what made them think he could handle a pounding in the NFL. Alot of skill IF and WHEN healthy.

I'm not necessarily pro-Flynn and I'm not anti-Colt either. I'd be fine with the Browns standing pat at QB and trying to surround him with some talent for a change. Since the Browns seem hellbent on making a move at QB though, I'm simply rooting for what I feel are the least stupid options under that category.

You have to remember also that the Packers had the option to franchise tag Flynn and chose not to. If they felt like he was a lock to get a huge contract from some team, they would have slapped the tag on him.

This does not make sense given that Tate was selected before Hardesty. Many believe that the Browns were targeting Tate and then panicked when he was selected which resulted in the trade-up for Hardesty.
