Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

No.. I give myself more credit...

but Vickers still > Marecic .. kid could not get to the hole fast enuf... and it cost us dearly last year... stunted our entire running game.. which stunted any possibility of having a passing game... which eliminated any thought of an offense

Sometimes you just have to overpay when you're not a Superbowl contender and trying to get there (plus Cleveland weather).. not stupid overpay but within a reasonability threshold

I'm looking for growth... Adding player X > Hilles; adding Player Y > Steinbach .. how much longer will they continue upgrading 2-3 positions a year... we need upgrades in 15 spots

the running game suffered because the guards were inconsistent at best and the running backs, if not injured, were pedestrian. it had little to do with the friggin fullback.

until you build a core of talent that you've locked in for the immediate future, free agency is nothing but a fruitless money pit.

I would hate to lose him because it would just mean that we would have another hole that we would have to fill.

I thought I read he already signed with Denver? Maybe it was premature, but unfortunately I see him leaving. I guess they think Young/Hagg are going to be OK, but I'm not sure.

Looking at how some of 2011's bottom feeders have done this offseason so far, I think the clowns are going to have a legit shot at picking #1 next year. Most of the really bad teams last year (StL, TB, Jax) have made real efforts to improve themselves. Minnesota may be the only real competition. The clowns need to take the Barkley sweepstakes seriously. If they win a couple of pointless games, and end up 5-11/6-10 and wind up picking #4-7 overall, they're [censored]ing retarded.

The draft hasn't happened yet...there is still a chance to upgrade the club. I don't think one could argue that Taylor and Sheard, for example, didn't do that last year.

There's also the option to move S. Brown to safety if they draft Claiborne. CB would be pretty well set with Haden/Claiborne/Patterson/Skrine and so it would make sense to try Brown at S.

I am seriously hoping that is their plan...Claiborne at 4 is really the only pick that makes sense right now, and it would give us a bitchin' secondary.

Here's an example of why you have to be careful (& smart) with free agency. I think a real strong arguement can be made that Patterson is the better player.

Patterson - 3 years, 16 million, 6 million guaranteed
Eric Wright - 5 years, 37.5 million, 15.5 million guaranteed

This made me LOL

Browns sign DE Frostee Rucker (5 years, $20-plus million): MILLEN ON ACID Grade
It's a good thing the Browns cut Eric Steinbach today. They needed the cap space to sign Frostee Rucker to a big deal. You know, because Rucker is so awesome.

Rucker is a good run-defender, but he offers nothing in terms of getting to the quarterback. Cleveland needed a guy who could do the latter, so I'm not sure why the front office would throw more than $20 million at a rotational lineman.

Bucs sign CB Eric Wright (5 years, $37.5M): MILLEN ON LSD-LACED KIELBASA Grade
This is the worst signing in NFL history. That sentence is not an exaggeration.

Eric Wright is terrible. I gave him 1.5 stars in my 2012 NFL Free Agent Rankings for a reason. He's been torched numerous times per week over the past few seasons. Detroit and Cleveland fans know how bad Wright is, and the Buccaneers are about to find out.

Seriously, what the hell was Mark Dominik thinking? He couldn't have been sober when he made this transaction. I refuse to believe it. A plausible explanation is that Matt Millen snuck into his office, strangled him, shoved some LSD-laced kielbasa into the general manager's back side, and then slipped Wright's agent's number into his hand. When Dominik awoke, he was still delirious, so thought that paying $37.5 million to one of the worst cornerbacks on the market was a great idea.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. You heard it here first.

I suppose, theoretically, they could improve through the draft. But, we're still looking at Colt under center, and unless they can get a legitimate #1 receiver in the draft, he's always going to be an offensive liability, IMO. I don't see any legit #1 receivers other than maybe Blackmon, and I think #4 is too high for him. The other top receivers may end up being pretty good down the road, but I don't think any of them are going to be game changers as rookies. Then there's RB. Maybe they grab Richardson, but now with Hillis gone, whomever they draft will likely have to carry the load unless Hardesty suddenly manages to stay healthy and not play like a turd.

Regardless of who they draft, I still think this is one of the worst teams in the nfl, on paper. A lot of last year's turkeys are improving themselves already through FA (other than the Vikings), and the clowns are standing pat. Which really, I don't mind, unless they planned on going after somebody big...and we know they didn't. This franchise is still stuck in neutral...but at least they still have a lot of picks to plug holes. Maybe they can get a couple more trading down from #4. If they stay there, hopefully Claiborne is the pick. I'd be fine with that. If they don't go that route, I hope they trade down a few spots and grab Richardson. It's apparent rebuild #8 is going to be slow and methodical. They're just lucky they have such a loyal fanbase. Put this franchise in any number of other nfl cities, and they're last in the league in attendance every year.

Well, look what Matt did when he was with the Lions. He really shouldn't make any comments about anything related to football .

LitlBuck only had one cup of coffee this morning and then ate more acid than Tommy Chong's ever seen anyone eat Grade

The browns only hope is to trade with st louis for the 4. There were rumors they were talking and would swap the 4 and 6 for 2 second rounders. Which wuold give the Browns 5 picks in the top 40. They could get Richardson/Wright/OL/DE or OLB with those four picks. That is the best case scenario right now. Its that or we are already in bust for barkley mode.
