Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I read an SI.com article that also compared Haslam's stated plans to what has taken place with the Houston Texans. They've only had two coaches and two GMs I believe since joining the league. When he says he wants to emulate the Steelers, believe the approach to hiring good people and sticking with them is what he means - not necessarily that he wants to hire people from the Steelers.
This. That's why I think he will not blow up the entire Browns organization unless he wants his own people from ground zero and we won't know that until after the end of the season.

I think he will blow it up. If his philosophy is to stick with coaches and management, he isn't going to saddle himself with the people that somebody else hired.

...and have already contributed to the team being one of, if not the worst in the league. In a strictly W-L sense, the Holmgren/Heckert duo has been a miserable failure.

really though, that was to be expected with the total gutting of the roster.

if you want to believe cleveland radio, specifically knr, randy lerner put a spending hold on the front office to make the sale more attractive to buyers, which included him picking up the tab for the rest of holmgren's contract.

Hey! I'm standing right here!

It's interesting to go back and read about the Browns' 2012 draft (page 53 - 101), especially the dire predictions (to select one of the many):

Richardson and Schwartz will be the only contributors from a draft in which the Browns started with 13 picks. And the T-Rich pick was an easy one, so I hardly give the front office credit for that. This was an 'F' of a draft if I ever saw one.
I know that it's still early, but it looks like the Browns had a very good draft in 2012, with Richardson, Weeden, Schwartz, and Winn all being at least above-average NFL players, and Hughes, Benjamin, and Johnson being solid contributors. Add in Gordon, who might be the best of the bunch, and I'd say that their draft is a solid "B" right now.

EDIT: I should also have added UDA's Josh Cooper, L.J. Fort, Tashaun Gipson, and Johnson Bademosi.

With a young nucleus, new ownership, and a probable coaching change, I think that the Browns have a bright future for the first time since the late 80's.

I corrected my error immediately but every now and then I do question why Hughes was taken so early and Winn so late. LJB did not mention Cooper, who was undrafted, who might be a keeper.

I see now, sorry, No worries.

unless he thinks those guys can do the job.

The Eagles have not been that great of an organization since Heckert left and Andy Reid isn't making great decisions without him.

Well, yeah. My definition of blowing it up isn't firing everything that breathes. Some people like Heckert might be asked to stay, but I think we'll see enough people being replaced to be able to consider the next six months to be an attempt at a major overhaul.

It's things like that that will make me not extremely sad if Heckert isn't brought back. He has been better than anyone else the Browns have had at evaluating talent, but he's had several WTF moments in the draft as well. On the other hand if Haslam and Banner decide to keep Heckert I'll be fine with it as well.
