Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Well, at least this Ratbird won't be bothering Weeden

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, one of the NFL?s top pass rushers and a five-time Pro Bowler, likely will not play the 2012 season after tearing an Achilles tendon, according to various news reports.

Suggs was injured playing basketball, ESPN reported. A torn Achilles tendon normally takes almost a year of recovery time, which means Suggs will likely be out for the season. The story was first broken by Vinny Cerrato on Baltimore radio station 105.7 The Fan.

http://www.waitingfornextyear.com/2012/05/big-12-coaches-weeden-lacks-poise-in-the-pocket/

NFL Films guru Greg Cosell saw some struggles under pressure on Weeden?s game tape, and in interviews with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Big 12 coaches who faced Weeden in college said they noticed the same thing.

?He got quick feet. He got nervous,? observed Iowa State defensive coordinator Wally Burnham, whose Cyclones defeated Weeden?s Oklahoma State Cowboys in the 2011 regular season finale. ?He really threw the ball away in a hurry. I?m not saying he was scared, he just wanted to get the ball out to his hot receiver.?

Former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables, now on Clemson?s staff, faced Weeden twice in college and similarly surmised that Weeden?s ability, or inability, to improve under duress will indicate his career path.

?The challenge in the NFL,? said Venables, ?will be when the pocket?s collapsing.?

I saw the same problem in some of the Weeden tape I've seen. In the passing spread, he often had quick reads, mostly slants and outs, that prevented the defense from getting pressure on him. But when they did, Weeden looked lost and hurried. There was one play against Texas where he literally stepped out of the back the endzone (accidentally) under pressure just before he threw a pick-6 straight into the middle of the defense. If not for his skittish feet causing a safety, his skittish decision-making would have cost his team a touchdown.

Now what exactly is this guy going to do when his Browns receivers can't get separation on third and long while Troy Polamalu and James Harrison are blitzing him? I'm already having nightmares about it.

... :shake: thats about all I can say about this

http://www.waitingfornextyear.com/2012/05/holmgren-goes-on-media-tour-promising-big-jump-for-browns-in-2012/

Holmgren admitted that he “would not be happy if we had the same record or close to it”, but then went on to reaffirm that he believes in his coach, and the people they have in place

In both radio interviews, Holmgren said he believed the team was just a successful field goal snap away from being 7-9 last season. He mentioned that there should then be a little improvement in year 3. So if you were to try and read between the lines, it would be safe to say that Holmgren expects this team to be at least 8-8 next season.

whether or not we all agree on how the draft turns out... think we can all agree that 8-8 is pretty freakin unreachable ... and to say it to the media... Holmgren is looking to leave i'm sure of that, no President or GM is that stupid to paint themselves into this kinda corner. if the team doesn't hit what they expect Shurmer has to be fired.. which means starting over again.

Some of the clock management mistakes Shurmer made were appalling. Sure, we can chalk up some of it to him being a first year coach. But 8 year olds playing Madden football have more tactical sense than Shurmer. I sure hope he's practicing game management scenarios this offseason.

Well, according to Holmgren one field goal snap would have been worth three more wins. At that rate they are just four or five successful snaps away from home field advantage in the playoffs. Can't believe it's been that simple the whole time. :roll2:

gotta be something in the water? maybe the air up there? I don't get it.. its one thing to be confident but .. shit to use a historical reference I used for a recruit ... this is Cortes torching the ships on the beaches of Mexico... there is no turning back from these statements.
