Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

The only 2 guys that I care about missing OTA's our Roth and Vickers. Harrison, Elam, and Jackson can go test the waters. I think Vickers has shown is worth over the years and Roth looked very good in his limited time with the Browns last year. Harrison thinks he is an All-Pro because of a few games last season. Elam and Jackson can go test the waters as far as I am concerned.

I dislike the source, but can't say I disagree. Watch Derek Anderson have a solid year in Arizona...
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if DA goes off again this year.. I was laughing only because I hate Claussen. I'm willing to see if Delhomme can regain old form..

I see what people are saying, but I will respectfully submit that I can see no way in hell DA "goes off" this year, even if he starts in AZ. Yes, he has Fitz, but no Bolden anymore, and though Fitz can make big plays, he's really not a "deep" threat per se, as in run 60 yards and let DA try and drop one to him...he (and Breaston) are more 8-25 yard route and break one types...of which DA has absolutely no proficiency whatsoever.

BTW I said before and I'll say again for the record before the season starts...I don't think this draft was a disaster at all, in fact I like most of the pickups. Hardesty was a head-scratcher for me, but he has apparently shown well thus far in workouts. Ward is the one everyone will question, including me, but if he can hit and support the run at least he can do something. Our secondary was so awful last year I'll take anyone who can do anything well. I think the WR from SoFLA might work out better than some think, though I agree they were probably waiting to nab a WR next year. The other late-round guys could contribute, though probably won't start. I'll gladly take 3 starters and 5-6 contributors from any draft...if it works out that way. I still think Delhomme was a boner of a signing, but I guess we'll see, but I like what they got from Phily.

the problem Fitzgerald will have for Anderson to be successful will be that he will have to learn to catch a football thrown at him from 10 yards away traveling at a speed of 100 mph.

We really don't have a running back like Hardesty who can not only run outside but also is big enough to get some yardage running inside.

What in the world makes you think Hardesty can run outside?

Since we've drafted him I've been watching more and more Tennessee games from the previous year and while I submit he's a hard-nosed type runner; but he's a farcry from the unique skill sets you claim. He's essentially a Jennings except younger.

His acceleration is mediocre at best, he doesn't show the lateral agility to bounce a play outside nor the vision to make multiple cuts. He's a 1-and-go type RB. I have no issues with that type of downhill style myself but his health is a big concern as well. I'm not saying he was a reach, but I will agree with what has been said, I'm not happy with how much we gave to move up.

These statements seem kind of contradictory unless you think highly of Jennings. Also, I'm surprised at how highly people seem to value a couple of 5th round picks. I know there's a chance of hitting big in the fifth round but I'd imagine the majority end up being special teamers or out of the league in a few years.

I have now watched him that much since the end of last season. Sad that you do not have better things to do rather than watch reruns of Tennessee football:!

Its not so much the picks as too what those picks could have been bundled to move up for (into the 4th to grab Thaddeus perhaps?)

I have plenty to do, I just manage my time wisely. But thanks for the remarks.

Even his highlights aren't that impressive for god sake; it doesn't take much to see what many aside from myself feel.

Just to throw it out there...the Eagles aquired Kurt Coleman in the seventh. I know Kurt is undersized, but he'll be a quality player in the league. If you watch the Rose Bowl again, I think Coleman looks like a better player than T.J. Ward. Just an opinion...

My overall point, is a lot of quality can be found deep in the draft. Those two fifth round picks could have been potential starters.

I'm going to back this point up. Coleman might be smaller than Ward, but he's just as aggressive against the run, can tackle pretty well in open space, has much better coverage/ball skills. On top of having the added ability of playing some CB if called upon.

Ward simply can't do that.

You're backing an opinion up with your own opinion. I guess all anyone has at this point are opinions though. Below is one that points out some of the reasons why Ward went in the 2nd. It also goes on to point out that his injuries do not appear to be chronic in nature.

Grading the 2010 NFL Draft: Cleveland Browns

Early turnaround of the team?s top second round selection, Oregon safety T.J. Ward, marked the choice as one of the biggest ?reaches? early in the new day two format. A distinction must automatically be made in regards to these claims. Most had slighted Ward as a prospect based on a long injury history, not on-the-field performance. In fact, this safety played very well when on the field in 2009 and may have been the biggest hitting prospect in the nation from his position. Blessed with explosive hips, a reckless abandon on the field, and enough athleticism to warrant consideration as a starting cornerback in his career with the Ducks; Ward has all the tools physically to start from day one for the Cleveland Browns.

Just going on what I saw against the Buckeyes, he looked like a guy out to head-hunt, and was out of position a lot. But that was the only game I've ever focused on him. I re-watched the Rose Bowl after they selected him just to see him play. Wsn't that impressed, but we'll see. He'll have a chance right away to make an impact. Hopefully he merits the second round pick.
