Browns acquired CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong from the Eagles in exchange for LB Alex Hall, a fourth-round pick, and a fifth-round pick.
The 31-year-old Brown, still playing at a high level, went on the trading block with the Eagles unwilling to sign him to a long-term deal. He'll receive a new contract and move into the Browns starting lineup opposite Eric Wright, eliminating the need for a corner at No. 7 overall. Gocong, a better fit in the 3-4 defense, will likely start opposite Matt Roth on the outside. The Browns did well to fill two defensive holes for a pair of mid-round picks

wow...love this trade

I love it too - especially since D'qwell wasn't involved.

I don't want to send this thread in a political direction with this comment, but I feel like I have to say it:

If you have the capacity to "forget" a gun, you shouldn't have access to one in the first place - especially if you have kids (I don't know if Rogers has kids or not).

Conversely, if you have the capacity to "forget" a gun, you shouldn't have access to reproduction in the first place.

Just got home - awesome to hear this trade. We have plenty of 5th round picks so getting players that can have instant impact for late round selection is a freakin' steal.

Brown is still a quality player at his age and has a few more years left, that's what I"m most excited about.

If Berry (god willing) is still available @ 7 then this could be an awesome off-season.

Wow...Love this trade. I think all Browns fans are crossing their fingers for Berry. What an infusion that would be for this defence. That being said, I' still hoping this draft will be a little heavier on the defensive side.

Get rid of Rogers as soon as he is reinstated by the league. I am pretty sure he will be suspended for a few games since this is his second violation of an NFL rule. Suspended a couple years ago for four games for substance abuse. Robaire Smith was with him and I sure hope he didn't know about the gun because if he did he probably should be gotten rid of also. Maybe Cincinnati needs some more felons:(

I think this also might really screw up our draft. We might have to go for some quality DTs considering the possible suspension and the age of Smith.

Nice trade with the Eagles and it certainly did not cost as much which is the best thing. Will give us some time to build a secondary. I guess that steal by Savage in getting Hall didn't work like so many others of his draft picks. What a waste:(

Yeah love the trade too... get a good CB to pair with Wright and another LB.

Now the question comes down to this... if Berry isn't there at #7 what the heck do the Browns do?

Seems like trading down becomes the #1 option cuz the value of who would fit would be best to pick in the 13-20 area. And who would we target?

With the Shaun Rodgers situation does NT/DE become greater priority? Dan Williams out of Tennessee is the best NT in the draft, but #7 is a reach for him.

So we dare pick our RT here?

All I know is this trade gives us ALOT of options.

if berry is at 7 then i see us taking him without a doubt....but I agree with Litlbuck that this rogers situation may have us taking a DT like Dan Williams from Tennessee or maybe trading down....its a crappy situation but in all honesty i didnt see the browns winning more then 6 games next year so regardless its a rebuilding process....with or without rogers

Nope. Like I said, trade down. Earl Thomas. Whoever we swap with i'm assuming we'll get something in return. So then you can go after NT or OT.

A 1st round Oline selection puts a ton of money on our line, not saying it can't be worth it, but that's a large chunk of salary we'ere talking.

Btw - not that i'm huge on ESiPN, but they did have an article about McCoy and his "impressive" performance at the Texas pro day. What are the chances he's shooting up to be our 2nd (maybe 3rd) round pick?

Don't think McCoy will last through the second round but if he would be there in the third round I would not mind the Browns taking a shot at him.

Thomas would be nice if we could get an extra pick in the second round where we could pick up a DT. If we can fix the defense first, I think it is a great start for Holmgren. If we would not get a second round pick, I would take Berry:)

heres a list of possible DT the browns could draft in the 1st and 2nd rounds...their order is the possibility of them being drafted the highest

Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh
Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy
Tennessee DT Dan Williams
Alabama DT Terrence Cody
UCLA DT Brian Price

suh and mccoy are probably gone...i would love to see us possibly trade down if not once but twice to go down and get Cody at around #20...one thing i find it hard to see the browns doing is the whole act of trading down...we need a impact player and i could see us bypassing a DT and taking possibly Dez Bryant...dont laugh it could happen...what i love about the draft tho is you never know what team is going to take what and a McCoy could possibly fall to pick 7...should be a interesting Thursday night in April

Running the 3-4, all the press around here seems to be of the opinion that the Browns are happy with Rubin at the nose enough to move Rogers to end. If that's the case, I imagine a DT will not be a high priority. I say stick to the secondary to upgrade the defense as much as possible.

I really don't mind the Browns using their second rounder on Colt McCoy. I don't think he'll be there in the 3rd.

If the Browns could swing a trade down get another and pick up another 2nd rounder, you could go Williams in the first, McCoy and somebody else in the 2nd. If Berry's there in the first though you gotta take him.
