Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gibson tried at LB and moved to DE because he wasn't doing well at picking up the assignments required at LB?

Maybe I'm thinking of another player, but I thought that it was Gibson.

I am pretty sure that Gibson moving to DE had more to do with Gibson going into beast mode and putting on so much weight combined with the fact that Ohio State has been absolutely loaded at linebacker for the past six seasons or so

I think you are thinking of Mark Johnson

I agree pretty much with everything you have said but I think if Berry is still around, I would take him before Thomas just because he is more of a hitter.

Also, as much as I love Thaddeus there is an LB from Clemson (forgot his name) who I would love to take if he would be there in the third round.

Without question I'd take Berry instead, I was giving more of a scenerio of what I thought was going to happen. In which case, I didn't see him falling to us @ 7.

Not gonna lie, I'd prefer to take Thomas over Haden.

I think cover corners are a better pick all is considered equal. I like Berry then Haden (because of the position), then Thomas. Mayock has Thomas rated oahead of Berry. Any of the three in a Browns uniform will help.

So you like cover corners better, but like free safety Berry better than Haden because of the position?

I'm not inclined to do the leg work, but how does the top-10 CB miss rate compare to the miss rate for other positions drafted top 10?

(EDIT - I chose safety as a assume Eric Berry would be the preferred pick to a corner...)

Top 10 Safeties

2009 - none
2008 - none
2007 - LaRon Landry (6)
2006 - Michael Huff (7), Donte Whitner (8)
2005 - none
2004 - Sean Taylor (5)
2003 - none
2002 - Roy Williams (8)
2001 - none
2000 - none
1999 - none
1998 - none
1997- none
1996 - none
1995 - none
1994 - none
1993 - none
1992 - none
1991 - Eric Turner (2), Stanley Richard (9)
1990 - Mark Carrier (6)

1 safety selected top-10 in the last 20 years has proven to be a star.

EDIT - by jwins's's's standards....Turner, Carrier, and Taylor were all Pro-Bowlers at one point, but 2 of the 3 came at the very beginning. Since 1992, only one pro bowl safety has been drafted in the top 10.

In your estimation, that would be whom? Unfortunately I see a couple guys who died way too young on that list.

I was thinking of Taylor. Perhaps Turner was better than I remembered him. I'm a Bengals guy, so I don't have a great recollection of the Browns from the 90's.

I would say Taylor and Turner were both worth top 10's... though Turner might not have been worth a 2... Carrier was a nice player too, really.

Mostly wondering what your answer was.

No doubt they were good, Carrier was a 3-time pro-bowler (90, 91, 93) and Turner twice (94, 96). But I was going under the assumption that making a pro bowl or two wasn't enough to justify a top 10 pick as Springs was excluded from the list of "acceptable" cb's taken.

Not to change the topic or anything but this guy would be a nice upgrade at OLB. I wonder what the Eagles want for this guy.

Report: Cleveland Browns interested in trading for Eagles LB Chris Gocong
By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer
March 31, 2010, 10:54AM

CLEVELAND -- The Browns are interested in trading for Eagles outside linebacker Chris Gocong, a source told nationalfootballpost.com.

Gocong, who was drafted in the third round in 2006 when current Browns general manager Tom Heckert was in that capacity for the Eagles, lost his starting job to rookie Moise Fokou toward the end of last season.
Gocong (6-2, 263), would be a good fit for the Browns 3-4 scheme, according to the site.

Talks are said to be preliminary, but are expected to continue up to the draft, which begins April 22nd. Gocong was a restricted free agent, but signed his one-year, $1.176 million tender on Tuesday.

Gocong missed 2006 with an injury, but played all 16 games in 2007, finishing with 92 tackles, one sack -- of Tom Brady -- and seven tackles for losses. He also made 11 special teams stops.

In 2008, he tied for third on the team with 19 special teams tackles and had 61 on defense, along with two sacks. Gocong would most likely play outside in the Browns defense.

Just say NO to Claussen... feels like another Ryan Leaf with less talent.

Really I do not want ANY QB in the 1st round... none of them warrant it. Now, I actually like a few QBs that can be had in the 3rd-5th round area. I feel confident that is the way Holmgren will go as that is his preferred method of picking QBs.

WR??? Didn't we just pick 2 guys in the 2nd round last year? And this year is not a good crop of WRs in the 1st round. We just have to let the young guys we have grow up a bit as young WRs normally take 2-3 years to get ready anyway.

What the Browns need to draft is defense, defense and more defense. Secondary help, our LBs still suck and we need DL depth.
