Clausen has come a long way since then. Getting sacked 50+ times your freshman season and losing to Navy for the first time in 40+ straight years will do that to your ego :wink2: My cousin said he was pretty cocky when he came in freshman year, but he was pretty grounded by the time he left this year. Still wouldn't want to see him go to the Browns though.

But he just looks like a douchebag that you want to punch in the face.

Yes it is.

It's not a Notre Dame thing though, just a gut feeling I get going back to the whole limousine and announcing his committment at the CFB Hall of Fame thing. Both of the other guys strike me as being closer to the no-nonsense type I'd prefer to see the Browns spend a draft pick on.

Clausen is an extremely hard worker and is always in the film room...

Its funny because all the things I hear about Clausen, they said about Brady Quinn...Charlie Weiss, Great Arm, Pro System...blah blah blah

except jimmy clausen got to throw to 2 1st round wrs and a potential 1st round TE this year, while brady quinn had maurice stoval and a he/she baseball player as wrs.

There definitly are some similarities between Brady and Jimmah. Jimmy came in with more hype, but it's debateable who accomplished more. Both had gaudy stats, worked well in the pocket, played in the pro style offense. Both played in systems that were not known for defense, you could keep going. Biggest difference was the end result, although neither that positive: Brady got to two BCS bowls with two bad showings, while Jimmy won a low ranked bowl.
I think Brady works harder, but Jimmy finds the open receiver and took more shots downfield. It's tough to qualify that as they both had similar yards per attempt, but Tate was pretty good at getting open downfield while Samardzija made a lot of plays after the catch.

The other day I was telling the old man, I would almost prefer Tebow over Bradford, McCoy, and Clausen - I may get that wish - the one good thing for the Tebow haters IF the Browns draft Tebow is: Tebow will die on the Browns.

He/she was Jeff Smararzyn. Not chopped liver at Wr. Now a top MBL prospect.
Jeff Samardzija...

As far as Clausen is concerned, I think that Golden Tate will be a first rounder, but also think that he's going to have a tough time in the NFL. He catches well in traffic, but why did he have to? Receivers that can't get open in college are going to have a tough time getting open in the NFL. The fact that Clausen was able to still get him the ball speaks well for Clausen. I still don't know if I want him on the team though. If we're going to have two veteran QBs that will see playing time before a rookie QB, I would rather not spend the high pick on someone who might not play for one or two season.

If we in fact are trading up to get Bradford part of me wants him to sit a year. That time holding a clipboard, just really seeing the game up close, refining his game and full attention to the offense without woring about your Oline protecting you does wonders. However by that same token it means the team is in the hands of Wallace or (:() Delhomme.

Bradford to me, could be a great QB in the WCO. He has a pretty quick realese, throws from the ear and is damned accurate.

I thought Holmgreen although he admires Tebow has basically come out saying he's not really interested? No?

I'm chalking up this year as a loss anyway so it really doesn't matter to me who starts (Wallace or Delhomme). As long as they don't throw a rookie QB into this mess of an offense and ruin him I'm ok with it.

I thought about this for a bit. The reason Tate had to make catches in traffic had a lot to do with Floyd getting injured. When Floyd was out of the equation, Notre Dame didn't have another WR that could fill his shoes quite as well, Rudolph at TE was the next best hands. Tate got double teamed a lot during the middle of the season, and he didn't handle it well his Sophomore year when the same thing happened.

He made huge improvement from Soph > Junior year, relying less on just his pure speed and working on other skills. They found other ways to get him the ball, they started using him in the Wildcat quite a bit. He had a surprising Junior season, especially since he was a RB in HS and wasn't actively used as a WR until halfway through his Freshman year. To put up the numbers he did last year after only playing the position for a year and a half says a lot. I think he can still improve, he needs to work on making his routes a little crisper, but he could easily fit into a WR mold similar to Steve Smith.

Heres a link to Tate getting ready for the next level:
