Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

I just don't see our first round pick being a QB. Holmgren has never taken a QB in the first round, and he's had a pretty good record for spotting QB talent. There's no reason for him to believe that he can't get value in a later round, especially since he has two newly signed veteran QBs that will run the show this year anyway. The Eagles also never took a QB in the first round while Heckert was there, and Mangini's teams have never taken a QB in the first round while he was the head coach.

I think that the whole thing is just a smoke screen. I think that we'll go defense or try to use the smoke screen to convince other teams to trade the 7 pick.

Clausen does have an irritating way about him.

My cousin attends Notre Dame and writes for the campus paper.

None of the students can stand Clausen. "Cocky, arrogant asshole" is the term most used.

He has also been kicked out of many bars in the area for this reason.

Clausen will not make it in the NFL.

If anything, this makes me think he has a chance to make it.

That settles it.....................

I can't understand why the Browns let Rex Hadnot go. I thought that he played pretty well at both guard positions when pressed into action last year. He also could be a backup center. I see where he signed with Arizona earlier this month. Was he do some roster bonus if he had stayed with the Browns:huh:

No idea but I've been asking that myself...

Zona' and Denver must love our ex-players though.

So, I've been thinking (scary as that is) about the draft, what this team needs, and what we want.

I've looked through mock after mock, and I've done at least 5 of my own depending on certain situations i.e. trading up/down round sliding etc etc.

I have a small list of players to think about, not going to disclose my own opinions's on them just yet.

Kyle Wilson CB - Boise State

Ben Tate RB - Auburn

Ciron Black OT - LSU

Kareem Jackson CB - Alabama

Jacoby Ford WR - Clemson

Will Allen S - USF

I'm not necessarily saying these are my sleeper picks for the Browns, but obviously early mid to late(r/ish) round talents. Just curious what you guys were thinking or more importantly who else do you think is very possible our staff is looking at?

Some folks are talking about Dickson from Oregon, but I don't see us taking a TE at all with the Watson signing, FB is obviously a position that doesn't typically get drafted sadly that's our only spot that we don't need to address.

I'm also wondering what the chances are that Holmgren doesn't actually draft a QB this year. I kept thinking McCoy in the 2nd-3rd, but there's some still very valuable defensive players and RB's that should be left by then that could have a far more reaching immediate impact.

Let me first admit that I have not looked at that many mock drafts but here is my take on the guys you mentioned.

I don't know when you are thinking about taking Wilson unless you are talking about him being our second round pick. As soon as I saw the name I knew I had seen it before and it was positive... late first or early second.

Re: Tate he reminds me of the guy that we just got from Denver only height wise he is smaller. I am really unsure about the Browns running back situation but I don't think that Tate would fit a Browns need.

Regarding Black--the Browns have to start getting younger in the OL and he seems like a quality player and might be a good start but could he play guard. However, we can always use a young backup tackle. The question is when do you start to pick these guys.

I have heard Jackson's name mentioned also but I don't know what is availability is going to be. I am pretty sure that he will be gone when the third round begins.

Ford--no thanks. He is quick but lacks the size for my taste:)

Will Allen--I have no idea who you are talking about:)

Wilson and Allen could go in late Round 1 (Wilson) or Rounds 2-3. Black is probably a 4th or 5th Round pick. Same with Jackson, Tate, and Ford. I'm not high on Ford. Great Speed but only 5' 9". Also hands are a question mark. Heckert has had a good history with mid round picks (4-6). I'm sure all of these guys are on their board. I'd love to see Coleman and Gibson in a Browns uniform. Both are good players and at a position of need. It will be interesting to see where they end up going.

if Jackson is there in the third round the Browns would be crazy not to take him

I've seen Jackson play and he's good. This draft is deep across the board, but more so in OL, DL and Secondary. Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder (scheme, right situation, need, etc.) QB is the only real position that is thin.

The Browns are lucky to have 12 picks. I can see them trading some to move up or get an RFA or two before the draft. Drafting 10-11 rookies seems to be the target. For once I'm actually excited about plopping my money down (in years past pissing it away) for Browns season tickets. At least we finally have some sound experienced direction from the top.

Basically I was looking at those players along these lines.

Wilson - as our pick in the 2nd round. Great cover man and great on special teams.

Tate - I personally think he has great speed for his size (220ish) he shows good vision and decent cutback ability, on top of the fact we're wanting a bigger back to compliment our running game.

Ciron - I keep hearing about him being a mid-round selection. I've watched some film and he has a great foundation to build on. Pashos could move to RT and Black might be able to shore up the RG spot even as a rookie.

Jackson - He ran a better 40 (not that its everything) vertical and is a tad larger than his counterpart (Arenas) I figure he would be available around the time we pick in the 3rd.

Ford - I mentioned him just because of his speed. Obviously he has questionable route's and hands, but this was one of the off handed type names I tossed out.

Allen - We have (2) 3rd round picks, Allen is projected as either the 3rd or 4th safety off the board, I think this would put us in prime position unless Coleman is still there, in which case I'd rather see him in Cleveland without a doubt.

However I was looking at this as our first 4 picks.

1) Earl Thomas - S
2) Kyle Wilson - CB
3) Thaddeus - OLB

3b) This is where its gets interesting. I could see this pick being RB (Tate) OT (Ciron) or even another CB (Jackson)

I agree pretty much with everything you have said but I think if Berry is still around, I would take him before Thomas just because he is more of a hitter.

Also, as much as I love Thaddeus there is an LB from Clemson (forgot his name) who I would love to take if he would be there in the third round.
