Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

If the Browns don't get a Edwards trade done and he is with the team this year, they will regret not taking the Giants initial offer (rumored on other boards) of a 1st, 3rd, and Hixon. Now with the Giants apparently offering only a 2nd and a 5th are they playing a showdown of who blinks first?

My bottom line is this: Try to get at least a 1st and a 3rd for Edwards because you will not get that in return if and when he bolts out of Cleveland.

Edwards would've been gone if the Giants had offered a 1st, 3rd and Hixon. That'd be beyond a great deal, considering the reported current offer is a 2nd and a 5th with no other WR.

Recent reports have made it pretty clear that the Giants aren't willing to trade their 1st round pick. Doesn't make any sense to me, especially considering that they're going to use it on a WR if they don't get Edwards.. this group of mid-late first round WRs doesn't have the ceiling that Braylon has, nor the talent.

One article I read had them passing on Edwards because the price is too high, but using one of their handful of second and third round picks to move up in the first round to get a better rookie WR than they would get at the back end of the round. In other words, they're supposedely saying they might give up a first and a third or a first and a second even to move up to pick a rookie WR that doesn't have the potential or experience of Edwards. And since they have nobody right now who you could consider better than a No. 3 receiver they would apparently plan on that rookie being a huge part of their passing game as they try to win a Super Bowl. It sounds like a bunch of hot air to me. I think the Browns can wait them out. The Giants are contenders and need to add a piece way more than the Browns need to make any one move in particular in their effort to rebuild.

Yeah, I agree and definitely think time is to the Browns' benefit, but if the Giants actually do that.. :shake:

Yeah, why would you give up more to burn a pick on a WR than it takes to get one?

And, it's going to cost them at least that, I don't see how you can get less than Maclin if that's the plan for the Giants.

(Unless the Browns really want a player back, and it's not the 1st and 3rd part of the equation the Giants have trouble with)

Hell, if they want to Burn the 29, a second and a 3rd... shit... I say we give them our 1 for that and they can have Crabtree, and then we can move back up to get a mid-first round guy who might be on the board. Jenkins, Matthews III, whoever...

Completely agree with a lot of what's being said above...my friends and I have been discussing this for a while.

The interesting this is that the Giants don't need Braylon to sign a big new contract if the Collective Bargaining Agreement doesn't get hammered out. He'll be a restricted free agent that they will have to offer at least $6.5 mil for his 2nd year and I think if signs a more lucrative deal with another team or they trade him, then they would get the 1st and 3rd they want while we dealt him away for a 2nd and a 5th. So essentially, they would just rent him for a year and pay him $5 mil. It's a waiting game. The Browns know this is definitely a possible scenerio, so they're willing to wait until the Giants give in, which we all hope they do for a 1st rounder and another player. We will see in a couple days my friends!!!

Report: Cleveland Browns tell Broncos no on Quinn

by By Mary Kay Cabot Friday April 24, 2009, 1:08 PM

Chuck Crown / Plain Dealer PhotographerBrady Quinn's name continues to swirl in NFL trade talk circles.
The Broncos made preliminary inquiries about trading for Browns quarterback Brady Quinn on Thursday but were told Quinn was not

available for trade, a source told the Denver Post. However, that doesn't mean the Browns and Broncos won't pull off a draft-day trade involving a quarterback. The Broncos have discussed trading up to get USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, and if he's still there at No. 5, the two teams will undoubtedly talk.

The Browns are also said to be interested in the fast-rising Sanchez, but it's not known if that's an attempt to spur interest in the pick.

The Broncos have the No. 12 and No. 18 overall picks, the latter coming from Chicago in the trade for quarterback Jay Cutler. Quinn's name also came up when the Broncos were trying to trade Cutler, but Browns coach Eric Mangini denied a report that the Browns were close to dealing him.

The Post reported that the Broncos may have discussed trading up with Jacksonville for the No. 8 pick in hopes of landing Sanchez, but there are strong indications now that he won't last that long. Washington at No. 13 is definitely interested in moving up to get him and the Jets at No. 17 are also reportedly in the mix.

the initial rumor was the the browns wanted a 2nd, 5th, and steve smith, and the giants said no as they don't want to part with any wr in a trade.

so, the browns have apparently raised the stakes asking for #29 and kiwanuka, to which the giants said no. the fact that they would use their 1st and 2nd to move up to take heyward-bey, who's troy williamson 2.0 is comical. The giants will either cave on draft day, or trade up and make fools of themselves just because they didn't want to be perceived as giving in to cleveland's trade demands.

If Curry is there at #5 the Browns take him. That one is easy. If not, they trade down. I cannot even fathom which of the 8-10 players the Browns take after # 5. It's clear they will try and get more picks. Give Mangini and Kokainis credit, there veil of secrecy is working. Even die hard fans cannot say for sure what will transpire.

The problem would be someone who would be willing to trade up for the Browns pick if Seattle picks Sanchez.

I thought Curry at 5 wasn't going to happen at all. Kiper's most recent mock draft has the Chiefs taking Tyson Jackson (AT 3?!?!?!). Only reason I see him putting Jackson that high is if he knows something everyone else doesn't. But if KC takes Jackson for whatever reason, Curry should be there for the Browns. Unless the Seahawks want a LBer, which they might. They just traded Julian Peterson.

they did trade peterson. however, leroy hill was slapped with a franchise tag and lofa totupu is a stud. taking a lb at #4 when your left tackle is close to done and your qb has constant back problems and is up there in years is not smart.
