Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

Sal Paolantonio just reported on ESPN that the Browns are trying to get Kiwanuka and a first rounder for Edwards, and the Giants are only willing to trade a 2nd and a 5th.

..pretty far apart.

and gil brandt's draft chat today had a list of players, and their odds of being traded. Braylon's odds were 100% based upon what brandt had been hearing.

IMO the Giants will panic on draft day and cave.

Still not sure the Giants are going to be willing to part with a starting DE/OLB and their first round pick for a guy who can't catch.

But I do agree, I think a better deal will come up on draft day.

I would do a very exuberant and awkward dance if they get Kiwanuka and a 1st for Braylon.

Get a bidding war going between the Giants and Eagles, and get this thing done!

I guess I don't understand, and I am not saying that Edwards will not be moved, but why do you believe Brandt so much when he is just being fed the same type of information that Mike Lombardi was being fed. And by the way, Grossi and Coach Sam are extremely close and I think that Sam has the few contacts around the NFL. He is very well respected.

it's not a matter of believing Brandt. The very fact that ESPN is reporting something is enough to make me believe the contrary.

And, once again, all Cleveland leaks of info have been subsequently plugged and removed. Grossi, Ratigliano, Cabot et. all know nothing about what is actually going on.

As for the other part, Kiwanuka is not really a starter any more. He was moved from DE to OLB in a 4-3 because Osi and Tuck were the starters. With Canty on board, he definately won't start at DE. He was OK as an OLB in a 4-3, but wasn't great by any stretch. He is an expendable commodity for NYG if they want a WR bad enough.

He'd be a starter for pretty much every team in the league, just not for the Giants because they're absolutely loaded on the d-line. He had 8 sacks last year, which would certainly be an upgrade at OLB. He's a hybrid-type player, I think he'd fit well in a 3-4.

Biggest thing about Kiwanuka is that he's improved a good bit every year.

i'm not arguing his talent one bit. in fact, i'd say they'd be wasting him at OLB in a 4-3. he's a valuable trading chip for NYG if they are serious about getting a #1 wr. otherwise, signing Canty to the deal they did really doesn't make much sense.

Ah, misunderstood you then. We're on the same page regarding that then.

I still don't think Braylon is worth Kiwanuka and a first though. :tongue2:

Report: Giants Moving On From Possible Edwards Deal

Posted by Mike Florio on April 23, 2009, 6:15 a.m. EDT
The game of chess/chicken continues between the Browns and the Giants.
The Browns desperately have been trying to create a market for receiver Braylon Edwards, floating vague rumors that at least one team has offered a first-round pick and specific rumors that the Giants are close to acquiring the third overall pick in the 2005 draft.

But the Giants, as ESPN?s Sal Paolantonio reported Wednesday, aren?t budging from the offer of a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants are now moving forward with plans to pick a receiver early in the draft.

Per Vacchiano, the Giants don?t plan to blink regarding their refusal to give up a first-round pick, and the Browns don?t plan to blink in their insistence on a first-round pick. (I blinked like seven times while typing that sentence because I haven?t had my coffee yet.)

Vacchiano also mentions that the Giants might try to trade up in round one ? with two second-round picks and two third-round picks, the Giants have the ammo to do it, if they choose to use it.

If the Browns don't get a Edwards trade done and he is with the team this year, they will regret not taking the Giants initial offer (rumored on other boards) of a 1st, 3rd, and Hixon. Now with the Giants apparently offering only a 2nd and a 5th are they playing a showdown of who blinks first?

My bottom line is this: Try to get at least a 1st and a 3rd for Edwards because you will not get that in return if and when he bolts out of Cleveland.
