Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I could live with Nicks in the second round but I have problems with the WR from Georgia because he did not show up until this year and has a tendency to drop the ball:(

I agree. I might even take Nicks or Robiske if the Edwards trade with the Giants goes through for #29. I think we take Mack at Center in round two and a Safety Round three we need an LB or DL (best available) We finish with a RB, QB (Hoyer?), and an OL. Either way the Browns are re tooling. I think both Edwards and Quin stay at this stage. Unless they get a pick or two they like.

I know that quite a few of you guys do not like Grossi but in his pot cast yesterday he said that he thought that there would be a complete turnover of this team in 2-3 years and that the only guy probably safe was Joe Thomas.

He also stated that not to be surprised if the Browns took Raji at #5 and move Shaun Rogers to DE. He said that if the Browns did not take Raji not to be surprised if they did not take his backup in Round 3 if they get a pick. I have no idea why the Browns would take a defensive linemen when they have so many but maybe the ones they have they don't like.

One of the things that I don't understand is that I have read that the Browns are looking at one of the better centers in Round #2 because they don't like Hank. I can understand that blow why don't they just move Hadnot to center and wait until next year before drafting one.

grossi is straight up full of shit, and that's all that needs to be said on the matter.

Maybe they don't like Hadnot either. Also, if Mack falls to the 2nd he would be a good value at a need position. The same might apply to Wood as well.

Moore at #5 intrigues me. Bookend tackles....young....talented....could go a long way to making the Browns consistent winners.

Plus, I'm not thrilled with any of the defensive players at #5.

Even Curry.

He could be but he has been the Browns beat writer for quite some time and has some very good contacts. I know that you have good contacts also so I would like to hear your first and second round observations for the Browns.

Freudian slip?
maybe, maybe not:wink2:

The new regime has indicated that Jamal Lewis is a much better back with a "road grader" at Center. Expect a change here IMO. They also need help on the right side, at least depth if not a starter.

You mean Monroe? I'm a big fan of Aaron Curry but doubt that he will be an option. Can't decide who I would like as an alternative but would not complain about further investment in the O-line.

the problem is that all of grossi's contacts were part of the old regime that have been shipped out, and now he's got nothing. so he and that gawky bird cabot simply make up bullshit and see if they can get anything to stick.

it only makes sense to try and create smoke around this though...by all accounts, the NY Jets are ready to pull the trigger with the Jaguars at #8 if Sanchez is still available. If Seatle passes on Sanchez, the Browns should be in decent position to move down (which would be great with the lack of elite prospects) and gain more picks.

I still doubt anyone is buying the reports, but it makes sense to create something out of nothing. Maybe Grossi just is playing his part.....

here is a prime example:

per tony grossi today:

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have all but crossed off Michael Crabtree as a candidate for the No. 5 overall pick, said a source.

The Texas Tech receiver brought a diva attitude on his visit to the club facility last week and did not impress coach Eric Mangini and others, the source said. In fact, Crabtree was described by some in the building as "not nice." After Crabtree left, Mangini secured last-minute workouts with borderline first-round receivers Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina, Kenny Britt of Rutgers and Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia.

* No, Derek Anderson did not have surgery on his left knee in the offseason. So why wouldn't Browns GM George Kokinis just admit it in his pre-draft press conference this week? It's a mandate from Mangini to not even acknowledge questions about surgeries. Mangini jumped all over Kokinis when Kokinis let it slip in an interview prior to the NFL combine in February that running back Jamal Lewis had routine arthroscopic surgery to "clean up" an ankle. Mangini does not even intend to speak the letters MRI if a player, in fact, has had the routine exam.

* Crabtree might not even be the first receiver taken in the draft. Seattle (fourth) and Cincinnati (sixth) are expected to fill greater needs on the offensive line. Oakland (seventh) is enamored with the speed of Missouri's Jeremy Maclin. Jacksonville (eighth) has been burned so many times by first-round receivers, they are gunshy to take another. It's quite possible that Alabama tackle Andre Smith, who turned off so many coaches at the NFL combine, will be taken ahead of Crabtree.

* Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji is back on the rise after reports of a positive drug test proved false. He's very much in the mix with the Browns at No. 5. Drafting Raji might result in more four-man fronts for the Browns. Also, Shaun Rogers would move to right end in the base 3-4 front. If the Browns pass him up, Raji is not expected to get past Jacksonville at No. 8 or Green Bay, for sure, at No. 9.

* New Orleans sees Ohio State's Malcolm Jenkins as a free safety and is expected to take him at No. 14.

* The first USC linebacker will go to Houston at No. 15. But which one? Either Brian Cushing or Clay Matthews, but not Rey Maualuga.

30 minutes later from cabot:
Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree, with his big body and exceptional hands, could be just the blockbuster receiver the Browns need to make folks forget all about Braylon Edwards if they trade him.

Some league insiders say the Browns have fallen in love with Crabtree, the top-rated receiver in the draft, and the feeling is mutual following his visit to Cleveland last week.

"I loved Cleveland and would love to play there," Crabtree said in an e-mail. "It's a team with great history and great fans who love football."

none of these hacks have the slightest clue as to what's going to happen.

The one bit that Grossi actually hit on was confirmed by Kiper in his chat today on ESPN.

Kiper said the Browns are debating offense or defense. And the defensive player in question is Raji.

And while I said besides Curry I don't like any other defensive player at #5. I kinda didn't include Raji in that cuz I didn't think the Browns would pick a NT due to Rogers. But I can see Rogers being a DE in the 3-4 since he is very quick off the ball.
