Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

If they trade Edwards, WR suddenly becomes as pressing a need as any on the team - unless you're comfortable with having David Patten as your No. 1 receiver.
Nope, I mentioned in a post above I'd be okay with Crabtree if Braylon was moved for another 1st. Although, really, would Patten be that much worse than last years version of Braylon?

I love when I post in a Cleveland thread because I know it will always bring out the best in you:) I would like to know what two scenarios you are talking about. You would be hiding information from us would you:huh: While, I agree there is some skepticism to Lombardi's comments I did see a mock draft by slick Mel last week that had the Browns taking Crabtree at #5. Without any trades, I certainly would not do that but if they can get some first-round draft picks I would do it and then shore up the defense with the rest of them.

not holding back anything, just hit hte post button before finishing.

scenario 1 is to coerce a trade down from #5 for sanchez if aaron curry is off the board.

scenario 2 is a little more devious. KC would like to get out of #3 and recoup the pick they gave up for cassel. if teams think cleveland will legitimately take sanchez, they could move to #3 to get him thereby leaving aaron curry on the board for cleveland to take.

mel kiper will change his mock 10 more times in the next 10 days, and still be lucky to bat .500.

that being said, if cleveland is stuck at #5, maybe crabtree is an option. but cleveland has essentially positioned themselves as the total wildcard of the top 10 in terms of who they will pick, which does nothing but give them options. all this supposed talk from a secretive regime is just that, talk, and is being done with a specific purpose. the fact that so many of these hacks are buying into it hook, line, and sinker proves it to be effective.

You really think that the Browns would draft Sanchez with Anderson and Quinn still on the roster:huh: I'm not so sure I want Curry because I don't think he can play OLB and that is what I want if we take a outside pass rusher that early. Maybe if they draft down but not at #3 or #5.

I know that Mel will probably change his mock numerous times before the draft and you are correct you and with all of his intel:lol: will still be way off.

1. I'm not at all convinced that the Browns have positioned themselves as a wildcard at the #5 spot. I'm nothing more than a very dedicated Browns fan and I don't believe for one second that the Browns actually have any interest in trading Brady Quinn, that they have a first round draft pick on table as trade-bait for Brady, and that they have any interest in drafting Mark Sanchez. There is zero logic to any of that, and I'm just a dummy fan. I'm confident that most other GM's can see right through this one.

2. I think the Browns realistically have about a .001% chance of trading out of the #5 spot. Sure they would like to, but so would Detroit, St. Louis, KC, and Seattle. It just 'aint gonna happen. The Browns have no real interest in Sanchez, I know that and so do you. They will select the best football player on the board at #5 that fills a need. Hopefully, it's Aaron Curry.

1. just like mcroberts would never trade a 4,500 yard passer in jay cutler....

2. actually, of the top 10, the only 2 teams with any real desire to move down are kc and cleveland.

There goes the Alabama football radio network to hell.

TUSCALOOSA -- Former Cleveland Browns General Manager Phil Savage is coming back to his roots.

Savage, who began his career as a graduate assistant at Alabama, will be the color analyst for the A-Day radio broadcast, Crimson Tide Sports Marketing general manager Jim Carabin told The Birmingham News.

I am not a professional football talent evaluator but from everything that I have read to your really thinks that Curry is going to be sitting there at #5.

I think anybody might move down a slot or two depending upon who is taken in front of them and if they have a good idea who will be taken in the next couple picks. All this is smoke until draft day.

So you don't think St. Louis wants to trade down after they announced to the world that they will consider any trade for their #2 pick? NO ONE wants to be picking in the Top 5, not this year. The talent is subpar and the price is too high in terms of dollars in a bad economy.

Now regarding the rumors. I can easily see the Browns trade anyone on this team. New regime, new thoughts and they don't want to sink or swim based on guys they didn't bring here. If you are in charge and you don't like either QB, you trade the guy that gets you the most. Supposedly the rumor is the Browns can't get anything better than a 3rd rounder for DA. Now if you view both QBs as not being good enough and one guy can get you a 3rd rounder and the other QB can get you a 1st & a 3rd, you trade Quinn.

And you don't need to grab a QB this year, that is the beauty. If you tear this team down enough we will be picking high again next year where there will be 4-5 QBs that are rated better than any of the QBs in the draft this year. Ya got to think long term.

Of course no Browns fan wants to see another rebuilding year... but face it, next year is a rebuilding year. Might as well crash this thing into the ground by selling off anything and everything and bringing in your type of players.

any team will "consider" trade offers. but the rams need a LT more than anything, and are in prime position to get one of the top 2. so, unless a team is going to ricky williams their draft, it's a nonstarter.

Braylon To Broadway, After All?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 14, 2009, 3:01 p.m.

Weeks after rumors first surfaced that the Browns will trade receiver Braylon Edwards to the Giants, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that Edwards is expected to become a member of the Giants before the draft commences.

Cole cites two unnamed sources in support of his report.

?The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,? one of the sources told Cole.

We?ve repeatedly heard that the Browns want a first-round pick and a third-round pick for Edwards. And we?ve also heard that Edwards ? who is signed for only one more year ? wants a contract averaging $10 million per year.

Prior reports suggested that the Giants offered a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick and receiver Domenik Hixon or Mario Manningham, and that the Browns wanted the two picks and Steve Smith.

Of course, the Giants aren?t required to sign Edwards to a new deal. They could pull the trigger on the trade, and then take their chances.

With no new CBA, Edwards would be only a restricted free agent next year, and the Giants could retain his rights for a one-year tender in the range of $2.5 million.

From a timing standpoint, it would be prudent for the Browns to refrain from doing the deal until the Giants are on the clock with their first-round pick. This would prevent a team picking beneath No. 29 from leapfrogging the Browns in an effort to get the player they might be targeting.
Glad they turned down the Manningham deal. :p
