Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

Cleveland Browns to visit with another cornerback
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have a visit scheduled later in the week with Green Bay free agent cornerback Jarrett Bush, a source said.

Bush, 24, has drawn interest from Tennessee and Baltimore because of his strong reputation on special teams. He was second on the Packers last year with 17 special teams tackles. He has limited appearances on defense in his three seasons in Green Bay.

Bush, 6-0 and 200 pounds, is a restricted free agent, but was undrafted out of Utah State and would not require compensation to Green Bay if he signs elsewhere.

The Browns have visited with three previous cornerbacks in free agency. They signed Hank Poteat of the Jets on Monday.

Might as well keep bring every CB out there for a talk and one of them might bite. Not saying a good one but maybe another Poteat.

I can buy this! Not at #5 though. We would have to drop back 4 or 5 spots and pick up more picks. We also need a WR, RB, LB and OL help. Multiple picks can fill alot of these holes. The only top 5 player i feel the Browns are looking at is the Wake Forest LB Curry. If he's gone i say trade down.

Trading down is way easier said than done... many more teams want to trade down and aquire more draft picks that come with cheaper contracts, rather than take a risk on a possible bust and pay him alot of money. Its the ideal situation, but not probable.

cleveland can hope that stupid jacksonville will trade up for crabtree now that matt jones got arrested again. they needed wr help as it was, and the raiders will take crabtree at#7, no questions asked.

Cleveland Browns sign David Bowens, New York Jets linebacker; make offer to Abram Elam, Jets safety according to report

The Browns added another Jets player Tuesday, linebacker David Bowens, and moved closer to still another, safety Abram Elam.
Bowens signed a four-year contract worth as much as $7.2 million, according to ESPN.com.

Elam, a restricted free agent, signed a one-year offer sheet for $1.5 million. The Jets have seven days to match the offer or will lose the three-year player from Kent State without draft-choice compensation. It is believed the Browns made the offer fully guaranteed to discourage the Jets from matching.

Bowens followed Jets teammates C.J. Mosley and Hank Poteat to the Browns to rejoin former coach Eric Mangini.

Bowens, 31, mostly a backup with the Jets, ined up outside and inside in Mangini's 3-4 system. He could start on the outside opposite Kamerion Wimbley or serve as the position's top backup.

Elam would join Brodney Pool and recently re-signed Michael Adams as a candidate to start at safety in place of the departed Sean Jones, who signed with Philadelphia.

Another restricted free agent the Browns are interested in is Green Bay cornerback Jarrett Bush, a source said.

the guy from Green Bay is it is in Baltimore and if you does not sign there he will visit Cleveland. He has another undrafted RFA. At least he is not from New York which might be something.

If these guys know the system and can provide depth, I don't see a problem. They lack talent and depth pretty much everywhere on defense, so bringing in guys familiar with what's going to be happening is probably a good idea.

Well, you do have a point but don't the J-E-T-S have some need for some depth and they don't seem to be keeping these guys. Maybe we will have firemen cheerleaders next season. I have nothing against firemen just sayin:wink2:

I'm somewhat disappointed in the lack of signing quality starters on defense as well, but I'm glad they're actually trying to get some players to compete. They could be doing what the Bears are doing - absolutely nothing.

I'm starting to become a Browns fan. Sucks for me. :(

Which makes you wonder who the hell is making the decisions. Mangini or the GM??

Or maybe they both are, and they both think that the Jets leftovers are better than what the Browns had.

I guess I just don't get the uproar. It's not as if they're signing all these players from a team as bad as, well, the Browns.

Ok. This is fucking ridiculous.

I guess it's better that this coach is at least trying to emulate a pro team rather than a college team (Butch Davis).

I wouldn't say he's trying to emulate a team, more like bringing some of his own players with him. These are guys he's coached and knows what to expect from.

Doesn't every new coach try to bring in guys they coached at previous locations? They know the player more than any of us. And since we need 4 new starting LBs and then 4 backups as all the LBs the Browns had are rubbish (save maybe 1-2) I have no problem.

And once again... we need to draft LBs, LBs, LBs... and then draft a few more. A 3-4 defense is only as strong as their LBs. We get a pass rush and all of the sudden Wright/McDonald become very good starters.
