Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

No the Browns desperately need a pass rush.

They can find a solid safety in FA or later in the draft. They need the difference maker up front and in this draft, that Orakpo....

I'd still take Malcolm honestly....maybe a bit homeristic, but I still say he is the safest pick in the draft. He ran the best shuttle time in the draft, and is easily the best corner. He can also play safety if they decide they want him there.

I'm just not keen on waiting for Orakpo to develop....it generally takes 2-3 years for college DE's to make a dent as an OLB in the 3-4. That'd also be a lot of money tied in 2 OLB's.

True. I don't want Mangini to draft another Vernon Gholston. Even if Gholston does "get it", and starts to develop into what he was drafted and paid to be last year. The Jets will never get the first one to three years of his contract back. The top ten is not where you draft a project.

They need to find the guy that's already been in the league for a couple years and hasn't caught on yet. Just think how many teams wish they'd picked up James Harrison the first 2-3 years when the Steelers cut him. 3-4 OLB is hard to draft and get instant impact.

Browns sign CB Poteat

Berea, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Browns announced Monday that they have signed cornerback Hank Poteat, who had been with the New York Jets.

"Hank is a veteran corner who has played inside and outside," said Browns general manager George Kokinis. "His versatility and knowledge of the system will be an asset to our secondary."

Poteat, 31, played 13 games for the Jets last season, compiling 41 tackles, two interceptions and a sack. A third-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 2000 NFL Draft, Poteat had stints with Pittsburgh (2000-02), Tampa Bay (2003), New England (2004-06), and the Jets (2006-08).

Cleveland Browns becoming the Cleveland Jets under Eric Mangini's direction
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Jets?

To Eric Mangini, it has a nice ring to it.
In his first two months on the job, the Browns coach has:

* Hired former Jets coaches Brian Daboll (offensive coordinator), Brad Seely (special teams), Bryan Cox (defensive line), Andy Dickerson (defensive quality control), Jerome Henderson (defensive backs) and Rick Lyle (strength and conditioning).
* Signed ex-Jets backup defensive lineman C.J. Mosley.

* Signed ex-Jets backup cornerback Hank Poteat.

* Added Erin O'Brien, his former assistant with the Jets, as director of team operations.

* Added Dawn Aponte, a former Jets salary cap administrator, as vice president of football administration.
Who's next?

The Browns have hosted safety Abram Elam, the former Kent State player who has lost three siblings to shootings on the crime-ravaged streets of Riviera Beach, Fla. Elam is a restricted free agent, but was not drafted so it would not require any draft-choice compensation if the Jets don't re-sign him.

There are also a pair of Jets linebackers, David Bowens and Eric Barton, who are unrestricted and have visited and negotiated with the Browns.
Another Jets backup linebacker and special teamer, Cody Spencer, also is an unrestricted free agent.

After that?

There is no truth to the rumor that Joe Namath has been seen at the Browns' facility.
More

Seriously, I wonder if Mangini knows that there are other NFL teams besides the Jets and the Browns. Hopefully, he does know that the Cleveland Browns do exist.

Didn't look like there was any interest in Bodden by anyone other than the fans, but he's at Patriot now so it doesn't matter anymore.

Where he'll probably turn into a Pro-Bowler :(

I still say Jenkins. Our needs is at Safety, CB and pass rush. He covers both positions well, solid tackler and is great coming off the edge in blitz situations.

I can buy this! Not at #5 though. We would have to drop back 4 or 5 spots and pick up more picks. We also need a WR, RB, LB and OL help. Multiple picks can fill alot of these holes. The only top 5 player i feel the Browns are looking at is the Wake Forest LB Curry. If he's gone i say trade down.

As much as I like Jenkins, I have to agree at #5 that would be too high to take him. He would probably be available at #10 if not below. I have heard mixed things about Curry and I see where some are saying he might be a better ILB then an OLB. I saw, and I'm sure most of the other guys did to, Orakpo play several times and he can bring the lumber. He does not have sticks for arms like Wembley. That is assuming we cannot trade down.
