Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

Just said they don't know the extent of the injury, but he was carted off the field and to a hospital in an ambulance...sounds very bad

Too bad they didn't cart Mangenius off the field and into early retirement. I am sure he spent late nights working up a play that was worth 16 points. What kind of dumbass calls a play like that at the end of a 16-0 game??

Even the Ratbirds players think that Mangini is stupid:sad: May be this would just be another nail in Mangini's coffin.

Cleveland Browns' Josh Cribbs released from hospital, but agent miffed about last play

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns receiver Josh Cribbs was released from the hospital and is doing well, but his agent is upset that the Browns left Cribbs in for the last play of the game and then ran a pointless hook-and-ladder with three seconds left that wouldn't have made a difference in the 16-0 shutout by the Ravens.

"I can't even put into words how upset I am at them for leaving him in like that,'' said agent J.R. Rickert in a text. "Fortunately, he's doing well.''
Rickert said that Cribbs texted him at 3:48 a.m. as he was being released from the hospital and said he was fine. Cribbs, who was immobilized on a board and taken by ambulance to the hospital, underwent a series of tests, including some to determine whether he had suffered a concussion.
Rickert is the latest in a long line of people to criticize the Browns for hook-and-ladder that could have seriously injured Cribbs. A league source and Ravens defensive end Trevor Pryce also blasted the move. After catching a 10-yard pass from Brady Quinn, Cribbs lateraled to Robert Royal and then was drilled with a forearm under the chin by Dwan Edwards.

He remained on his back while medical personnel immobilized him on a board. They left his helmet on, but removed the face mask. Players from both teams knelt around him and prayed. Teammates said Cribbs was laughing and joking to reassure them he was fine.

"Running a play like that when you're down 16 -- what are you trying to prove?'' Pryce said. "I don't understand it. I don't want to say something like that, but heck, it's the truth. Bad things happen when you do something like that. When people are running around like crazy, somebody's going to get hurt. Dewan hit him because he had the ball. He didn't try to hurt him. We prayed for Josh. I hope he's OK. He's a great player.''

Football is a violent sport, guys get hurt.

So if it was some 3rd sting guy who got hurt it would be ok?
your 17 points down then you run a hook and ladder and your best player is going to be on the receiving end of a big hit. That just doesn't make any sense.

Jim Brown spills the beans on Holmgren

And here's more evidence why the Browns shouldn't give former players positions of influence in the organization.

Though we have immense respect for Jim Brown's on-field accomplishments, he tends to be a little loose in the lips when it comes to exercising discretion. The most recent example? He let the cat out of the bag today regarding the pursuit of former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren by Browns owner Randy Lerner

I mean this is isn't really anything earth shocking. It has been known and reported elsewhere that after Kokinis was fired that Lerner was interested in Holmgren. The problem with him is that when he was head of football operations in Seattle he did not do a very good job personnel wise. As a football coach, I would love to have him coach the Browns but I am just unsure if I why I am making all of the player decisions.

except he was acting in the capacity of VP, GM and HC all at once, which is ridiculous. look at the holmgren coaching tree. He definately knows how to find and groom good football guys. he wouldn't be making player decisions anyway, that would be the job of the GM that he would have a hand in hiring.

One thing I like about Holmgren... he might be a guy who could convince Jon Gruden to come to Cleveland. I have read what Gruden has said recently about staying with MNF for the next couple years, but I think Holmgren's credibility and prior working relationship could perhaps change his mind.

The Browns keep recyling guys who have worked for the Browns before because they think that keeps them in touch with the tradition and culture of the region. It's not enough to have worked for the Browns in the past though. You have to live and breath football and understand that the people in this state do too. I think Jon Gruden gets it, and I want him coaching the Browns.
