Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I have a feeling Quinn will play after the point that he cannot get 70% of the snaps on the season (I think that was the percentage).

BINGO!! And just goes to show the Browns organization cares more about saving money than they do about winning. Same as the Indians (both starting pitchers in the World Series were Indians!!??!)

The Indians weren't going to be able to afford either of those guys. I actually think they made CC a pretty decent offer. If only we had George Steinbrenner.

The Browns are going to suck ass regardless, might as well not lose a bunch of money in the process. Does anyone really think the Browns are going anywhere with Quinn out there?

Seems a pretty safe bet that BQ and DA are both done in Cleveland after this season. The question is, which QB will the Browns draft next April?

If only you had the NY TV market and the Yankees history.

Steinbrenner is simply the beneficiary of both of those things, and a league that has no limits on how much of that money - which other teams will never be able to make given the reliance on local TV contracts - one can spend on players.

I will agree with you to a certain extent but Steinbrenner is also willing to spend quite a bit of that TV money that he gets on his team. Thank you Vernon Stouffer:sob:

Frustrated Jamal Lewis says this is final NFL season: 'I've done what I needed to do' -- Browns Insider

Jamal Lewis was so dismayed after Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Bears that he said he'll most likely retire after this season, his 10th. Full story ?

Frustrated Jamal Lewis says this is final NFL season: 'I've done what I needed to do' -- Browns Insider | Cleveland Browns - cleveland.com - - cleveland.com

"[The losing] is very hard," said Lewis, who's signed through next season. "Very. To me, I think this is my last year. I think this is it. Honestly, the way this looks, you know, I had a good run. Period. Point blank. I've done what I needed to do."

He admitted that it would be tough to go out this way, on such a losing note.
"It would be, but at the same time, I stuck my neck out and wanted to come in and help and do what I could do, even though I knew the consequences," he said. "I knew what we had and what was going to go with it, being that you do have new people coming in, new coaches, new staff, and all that -- there's a lot that comes with that.

"So, I just wanted to come in here and help and do what I could do. But, like I said, I don't know what's going on. In the past, where I've been, that has never happened. It's just a different style of play. I don't know what to say. Like I've said, I've done what I needed to do, and I'm just really trying to help and just do my job, which is run the football, try to put something together to help us win."

If Brady was the answer he would play, period. It has nothing, NOTHING, to do with the 70% of the snaps crap in his contract.

I actually agree with Browns' management trying to cut losses on the Quinn contract. He isn't close to worth that amount of money. And I do believe we will see him play once its clear he cannot reach the incentives. I have no problem with this and I'm please to see that the organization has that kind of foresight.

I think BQ will play after the bye week...Mangini benched him and then watched him, and the CPD says that everyone is impressed with his "work ethic and commitment" since the benching (of course, watching the guy ahead of you play worse than Heath Shuler if he had only one arm and half a testicle probably gives some motivation), so I think he will use the bye week as an excuse to put BQ back in. I think DA will be cut after the season, but I'm not actually sure about Quinn. If they can even turn him into Kyle Orton they might just keep him, and they have 8 games to figure out if he will be of any use or not. My guess is management will want to see that, without exceeding the 70% of course. Quinn knows he isn't getting that money this year...if he is at least trying to get into the lineup like he gives a shit regardless, that at least says something.

Of course, the Browns won't actually draft a good QB with a high pick...they'll bring in Daunte Culpepper or Byron Leftwich or Kyle Boller or some shit like that to "compete" with Quinn and "push him in TC" and all that horseshit. I didn't want to believe it, but after 8 games, it's obvious that Mangini is fucking clueless when it comes to offense, and that isn't going to change any time soon.

Do you honestly think that Quinn would be winning any of these games? They both suck so you keep Quinn on the bench to make sure he doesn't hit the escalators in his contract, not to save the Browns money, but to make him more valuable to move after the season. I would go with Anderson for one more game to get past the Ravens and then go back to Quinn against weaker teams. Maybe he will play well enough to have some value in trade. I really hope neither of these guys are around next season.

I will admit that I wanted Quinn to start from the beginning of the season but all I really did care about was that the Browns started a QB who gave them the best chance to win. I did not believe that was Anderson even after Quinn's 2.5 games.

The problem after the bye week is that the first game out of the chute is against Baltimore. Not a good sign for a QB behind that offensive line and receivers that the Browns have. Maybe they should play Anderson one more game after the bye week:)

It will be very interesting to see what happens this off season what follows a public outcry that Lerner should sell the team and just start a complete do over. I think if he would bring in a great football mind, which was mentioned last week, to head up the entire football operations people would start backing off demanding that he sell the team but he really needs to do that.

One more thing to point out after reading a lot of headlines today is that the fact there was even talk of firing a coach at the bye week midway through a single season shows what a horse abortion of an organization this is right now and what an epic failure Mangini has been after 8 games. Right now he makes Gerry Faust look like Amos Alonzo fucking Stagg, and I don't blame people for being pissed about it.

The QB situation is a year old hippopotamus placenta, and it has been handled as badly as I ever seen a team managed in 30 years of following pro football. Anderson's numbers in the month (that's 1/4 of a season if you're keeping score at home) after the Cincinnati game, because, you know, he gives them "The best chance to win":

2/17, 23 yds, INT, 11.8% COMP
9/24, 122 yds, TD, INT 37.5% COMP
12/29, 99 yds, INT, 41.4% COMP
6/17, 76 yds, 2 INTs, 35.3% COMP

That's a beauteous 29/87, 320 yards, TD, 5 INTs, 33.3% COMP. That's not pro football, that fucking New Mexico State. That's Ryan Leaf playing 4 games against the 85 Bears. Seriously...320 yards passing...in a MONTH??? Those numbers don't, of course, add in the sacks, fumbles, and gazelle-like freeze reflex (and anti-gazelle-like scrambling) Anderson has managed to display with frightening consistency either.

And this guy isn't just sucking up a roster spot, he's the STARTING FUCKING QUARTERBACK. Good God, what a disaster.
