Cleveland Browns (2008 Season)

Good point, but he has had almost an entire season to win the job back.
Problem is Flacco has been solid for a rookie. With the level of investment and need for a new face of the dynasty (Ray is ancient) moving forward, I'd stick with Flacco too, even if I love Troy as a coach. The fans, big wigs and sponsors will be much more patient with a big name QB (even if only draft-driven) than some shrimp passed by most.

Maybe Troy isn't better than Joe, or more importantly doesn't show the same level of franchise QB potential. But it seems like he could help out certain teams trotting out hot garbage at QB.

Brady Quinn out for season due to finger.

Translation: Hopefully DA plays well enough to get us a mid round pick. And if things can even possibly get any worse, it's because we didn't have our new starting QB. If things do get better, I should keep my job b/c Derek finally put things together.

Thanks,

Romeo

Sources: Broken finger to end season for Browns' Quinn

Brady Quinn finally got his chance, but it's not going to end the way he envisioned.
After only three starts, the Cleveland Browns quarterback will be shut down for the season with a broken index finger, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Tuesday.
FoxSports.com first reported that Quinn would be shut down.
Sources told ESPN that the team has not determined whether surgery will be necessary, but Quinn must stop all football activity for at least six weeks, ending his season.
Quinn and the Browns made the decision after the quarterback had been examined by noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., earlier Tuesday. According to FoxSports.com, the exam found that the break had gotten worse and was threatening tendons in the finger as well.
Derek Anderson, who lost his job to Quinn in Week 10, will return to the starting spot when the Browns host the Colts on Sunday.

Wait a minute, the Browns didn't have anyone in-house that could tell them that a broken finger is a serious thing for a QB? They had to go to the world's preeminent specialist to find this out? What a bunch of amateurs. :(

Hopefully they can make good use of the rest of the season shining up some of the turds.

the issue was tendon damage that wasn't revealed in the x-rays. the real issue is that quinn wanted to play and the coaching staff was stupid enough to trot him out there.

if playoff contender dallas sat romo for 3 weeks with only brad johnson to back him up, then there is no reason quionn shouldn't have been sat for 3-4 weeks. but, the appearance of that would have been bad, and romeo can't deal with more distractions :shake:

Browns
Owner admits frustration

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 3:03 AM
By Tony Grossi

The Plain Dealer

Browns owner Randy Lerner confirmed yesterday that he is contemplating major changes in the offseason but is weighing another organizational shake-up against the goal of continuity.
In a 60-minute interview with reporters, Lerner would not specifically comment on the future of general manager Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel. He expressed frustration with the team's downturn this year, its ongoing lack of identity and inability to select a quarterback around which to build the team.
Lerner also acknowledged an organizational void in communicating to the public on non-football matters.
The sit-down for the publicity-shy owner was done ostensibly to deliver the message that Lerner is not oblivious to the fan outrage building over another losing season.

Brady Quinn suffered a fractured finger on Nov. 17.

Playing Brady Quinn with a fracture on the tip of his right index finger apparently was the wrong thing to do.
Quinn will not play again this season, according to a source familiar with the injury, and may have surgery to repair the tendon on the last joint of the finger.
Quinn originally broke the tip of the finger hitting it on a helmet of a Buffalo player in the game against the Bills on Nov. 17.
The injury worsened, said the source, by practicing for the next game and playing in the Browns' 16-6 loss to Houston on Sunday. X-rays taken two days later revealed the small fracture.

Terry Pluto: Romeo Crennel has failed to give the Browns an identity

by Terry Pluto Tuesday November 25, 2008, 4:59 PM

BEREA -- At his press conference Tuesday, Browns owner Randy Lerner admitted his team has no real identity.
Hey Randy, want to know why?
Because that starts with the coach.
Lerner's general approach of hiring football people, sitting back and then holding them accountable is the correct one. But that means the franchise must have a general manager or coach who can say, "This is the kind of team we want to have, and this is what we expect from the players."

General Manager Phil Savage believes that is primarily the job of the coach. Savage believes his role is to get the best players possible, and allow the coach to use them -- and to be voice of the team.
In that role, Romeo Crennel has failed. He comes across as a wonderful man to have in the foxhole with you when the bombs are falling. He will support you, and he has your back covered.

What a disappointing season. Struggles with the offense, they lost the magic of last year before the season even began. The defense didn't improve, gave up double digit halftime leads or even 4th quarter double digit leads. Brady sits most of the season, Crennel gives in to the pressure and puts him in late. Brady tries to play with the broken finger and gets pulled, DA can't do much better with a good hand. Edwards still dropping catchable balls, problem with staph infections and doctors not able to diagnose the extent of injuries...oh wait, this is Cleveland =) This is all per the norm.
