Cleveland Browns (2008 Season)

If they don't take MJ at #5, I'll be pretty upset. Wright may develop into a good corner, but McDonald is a nickle back, nothing more. Shutdown corners don't come around often and when you have the chance to grab one, especially when it's already a position of need, you do it.

DE and CB are the 2 biggest needs for these guys. DE is the biggest need IMO. I would go with Orakpo at 5 and Harris the CB from VT at 36. If you don't like that go with Jenkins at 5 and pick up Maurice Evans from PSU at 36. From what I have seen on the Draft Boards Shoon Green would be available in the 4th RD at 100. I think that would be a steal. Then finally in the 6th Ellison /S from USC, Jamison/OLB from scUM or another corner in Barnes from Maryland. I would consider that a very good draft under the circumstances.

It would not break my heart to see them trade Edwards for a 3rd or 4th round pick, hopefully higher but...he is in a contract year and he is bound to leave Cleveland so why not get something in return now.

Same with KWII, the guy can play but I do not know what his problem is in Cleveland. Another one that will leave when his time comes. His value is still high so send him to say...Miami for a their 1st rounder or a 2nd rounder (44) and a fourth rounder (123) overall.

I like most of your thinking but I have to disagree with you that one of our biggest needs besides DB is at DE. Robaire Smith hopefully we'll be back next year so he will be in additional DE. Our biggest need if we are going to run a 3-4 is to pick up some OLB's who can put some pressure on the passer. We also might need to find a ILB since this was the last year of Davis's contract. Don't know if he will be back next year.

I like Harris from VT. I think he would be a good addition if he is still there in the second round. I have not looked at any mocks the show I am unsure who is going to be available. I might like to trade down from the fifth spot but would not want to drop too far down in the first round.

We are so thin at WR we are almost forced to keep Edwards as much as I dislike him. I would rather keep Winslow and use him in the slot.

I created some different scenarios IF and I MEAN IF we would trade Edwards and/or KWII. Before I move forward I hate the damn 3/4 defense and I would hope they would go back to 4/3 but our new coach is privey to the 3/4 from what I understand so here we go with BOTH Edwards and KWII being traded (and the assumption this is what we would get in return). By the way this would be in a perfect world.

1(5) Michael Crabtree / WR / Texas Tech
2(36) Maurice Evans / DE / Penn State
2(44) Victor Harris / CB / Virginia Tech (FROM Miami for KWII)
3(74) Coffman / TE / Missouri (FROM THE 49ers for Edwards)
4(100) Shoon Green / RB / Iowa
4(123) Terrance Taylor / DT / scUM (FROM MIAMI FOR KWII)
6(164) Kevin Barnes / CB / Maryland

Shanahan was my preferred guy... but it sounds like he's not interested in any of the current jobs. I think his 2week vacation was partially to wait for some playoff teams to possibly go through the system.
I wonder if there's a possibility to get him as a GM though too ? Yeah I know, I'm dreaming. But I think he's the kind of guy that could turn the program around and knows college talent pretty well. In the midst of inVinceble Young and Lienart he got Cutler, who I also rated higher than the other two.
And he has a habit of picking out RBs from the 2nd day of drafts and undrafted... success with drafting OL. The guy knows his stuff.

Anyway, at least Mangini is smart enough to draft some Buckeyes. Browns should never draft based just off that... but seriously... wtf... how can you [censored] it up with such obvious outstanding choices nearby? Our secondary sucks ass and you could probably build 2 or 3 secondaries out of Buckeyes in the NFL... :pissed: Not much worse off with WRs, OTs, LBs, etc.

If ever there was proof that the SEC isn't god at football... just hot-weather football... just look at Savage and the Browns.
