Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

Great news Browns fans.

Browns reach deals with Thomas, Wright

Browns first-round pick Joe Thomas and second-rounder Eric Wright agreed to terms Thursday night and will be on the field this afternoon for the opening of full-squad training camp.
That left first-rounder Brady Quinn as the team's only unsigned rookie. Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, did not return phone messages.
Thomas, who was at his house in Cleveland, was expected to sign Thursday night. Wright was flying in to town and expected to sign this morning.

BEREA The buzz is back, sans Brady Quinn.

After an anxious period when their top three draft picks were unsigned and therefore unable to participate in rookie sessions this week, the Browns have agreed to contract terms with No. 3 overall draft pick Joe Thomas and second-round pick Eric Wright.

Thomas will sign a six-year deal with the final year voidable. Wright will sign for four years. Both should be at today's first full-squad training camp practice, scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

That leaves No. 22 overall pick Quinn as the only unsigned Brown, rookie or otherwise.

That's good news. Thomas and Wright are going to be more important to this team this season than Quinn anyway.

Absolutely. I was far more concerned with getting Thomas inked in time. IF LeChuck can stay healthy through camp/preseason our O-Line is going to be excellent. I am really looking forward to the season this year. This team is going to be much improved.

Getting too optimistic

If Bentley stays "healthy" through training camp, it will be interesting to see if they play him at center or guard. If he does stay healthy, I think the Browns could have an extremely good OL but as all Browns fans know that is a big if.

It will also be interesting to see what happens to Schaefer. Personally, I would like to see him moved to RT and use Tucker as a backup tackle or even slide him into guard as a backup. I don't think Schaefer would bring us much in a trade and there are a couple teams that are interested in him because of his LT ability.

I work with a bengals homer and he insists that Steinbeck would be are best option at one of the tackle positions. He insists that Steinbeck's strength is at pass blocking and his run blocking is "iffy". Taking that into consideration, and the idea of Bentley playing at guard, I'd love to see the line go like this: LT: Steinbeck, LG: Tucker, C: Fraley, RG: Bentley, RT: Thomas. I think that would sequence would be a nightmare for run defenses on the right side, and it would best utilize everyones strenghts.

While that indeed might be the best Browns OL, they had been pretty adamant that Steinbach will play guard and not tackle. Also, they are looking at Seth McKinney to play RG.

The one thing that I do not understand it is them playing Tucker at RT over Shaeffer.
