Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

Well, I for one, would have preferred a matchup with TCU for obvious reasons.

I get why most of you hate the UC and/or Cincinnati and I harbor no hard feelings against you for it. You are who you are and you are born where you're born and you're raised how your raised.

Certainly UC fans have taken the 'NFL' fan mentality to the college game and there is virtually no respect given to other college programs. As a Colerain grad I hate losing to Elder or St. X (sorry, Moeller fans...but we own your ass)...but I respect the hell out of the GCL and admire them for what they do and how they do it.

As an OSU fan, my enemy is TSUN. I hate them with a passion...but I respect the program, the accomplishments and certainly the rivalry. Honestly, would the OSU mystique be what it is without our hated neighbors up north? Would 'Superman' be the same without his villians?

As a UC alumn and fan my enemy is Xavier. I hate losing to the Muskies in the Crosstown Shootout. I have taken my dislike for all things muskes to the point that I can even root for them when they are not playing UC...but I respect them.

UC football fans are like Bengal fans...Bengal fans despise the Squeelers and the Browns. They hate the teams, the cities, the fans, the colors....so, the natural reaction is to constantly lash out at them...even if the Steelers and Browns view themselves as rivals and don't see the Bengals as anything...

...So, this is how UC football fans react. They have no respect for Ohio State. Older fans will cite OSU's refual for decades to play UC in basketball in spite of the fact that both programs are were on a near equal level. Younger fans only remember that the Bengals and Bearcats have sucked for most of their lives and, those poor souls, can't 'act like they've been there before' because they honestly haven't. Hell, its been almost 20 years since the Reds last won a World Series...to put that in presepective it was ONLY 15 years between the 75-76 seasons and the 1990 team. This city has been waiting on a winner for so long that I believe they honestly have no idea how to react to one.

Now, I do not condone the way the fans or the UC admin has acted during this run. It has shamed me to no end. I can only thank you guys for showing me the equal respect during this time as I have shown you. I enjoy rooting for both teams...

...but I will let you in on a little secret...

I have cried three times in my life over a football game.
once was 1981 when the Bengals lost to the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

The other two times where when OSU lost in the Rose Bowl with the National Title on the line.

Go Bucks.
Go Cats.

In all fairness it sounds much more like VT's fans than UC's were buying the dollar menu tickets.

Frankly, if you had the ability, for reasons beyond your control, to buy tickets to the Rose Bowl for less than face wouldn't you jump at the chance?

I know I would.

EDIT -- And in that regard consider what the #70 note from your Wikipedia cite [NYT] suggests is the reason for last year's low sales at the Orange Bowl -- that it was later to host the BCS - NC game; just like the Rose Bowl this year.

Yes, in a heart beat. But tickets whose face value at $125 of a so-called premier bowl being given away (you know, meaning free) at the gate just to make the stadium look semi-filled for TV? Oh, and don't forget there were hoards of people here for the NCG already when this game was played. That argument by the NYT is BS for the low attendance. UC has no real football fans. They went 11-1 and were in a BCS bowl. This happens how often at UC? and they can not sell fucking tickets?? to Mid-westerners for a game in South Florida? in the middle of fucking winter? Spin it how ever you want, UC does not have true fans, period.

Living down here you would have never known that UC was playing in a bowl game because there was simply no UC presence here at all last year.

UC was 10-2 before the bowl last year. Both losses involved getting their asses handed to them. That can do alot to stop people, that are new to the scene, from wanting to spend the money to go see the team, that they just discovered, get their asses handed to them for a third time. I don't think that UC will be well represented at the Sugar this year either, but I do think that there is enough delusional UC fans to make the turn out better than the Orange Bowl.

Fortunately for Chocolate City and the organizers of the Sugar Bowl, Jort Nation will travel anywhere within the Confederate States of America (or a one day RV drive from Gainesville) to watch them Gators, so there are no fears of tickets being sold at the door at Dollar General or being given away with a Gordita at Taco Bel. Expect an OSU-Miami crowd split, if not worse. I'll be surprised if UC sells more tickets this year than last; under 10k wouldn't shock me.

I wish the rest of the UC fanbase, and the UC administration, deserved to have fellow fans like you, H&G.

UC should be proud of its excellent season. I can even sympathize with those who think the Bearcats deserve a shot at the NC game. It's just that the ridiculous need to depreciate tOSU at the same time really negates any positive vibe I could ever feel for the large majority of the fans who have established themselves as insecure assholes.

People like you make it hard to hate all UC fans. Fortunately the other 96.37% and the administration make it pretty easy.

Great post, btw.

Does the countdown to UC returning to mediocrity begin now, since Kelly is in his "secret" talks with NoD?

The countdown began as soon as they fielded 15 seniors as starters.

Oops, make that 16. I did my original count when Pike was still out.

They return two OL, two DL, one LB and a DB. And seven of their backups are also seniors.

This could be one of the more precipitous declines since RR took over at UM. And quite attractive to any coaching candidates I might add.

(As regards Kelly's success that many seniors almost qualify as a bit of smoke and a touch of mirror.)

Almost. You almost had all of the southern stereotypes in one post. You forgot to mention kodiak dip, Payless shoes and racism. Both other than that - well done.

Toss in a delusional, bandwagon fanbase that's somehow come to see BCS bowls as automatic, crap facilities and an all-time top 5 program in the same state, and who wouldn't jump to step into that job.

It would be like scrambling to be the last person on the Hindenburg.

Please. He left out gun racks, cockfighting, NASCAR, rasslin' and shooting highway signs with a shotgun while hanging out the passenger window of a pickup truck.
