Hello hyperbole! It's a hard gig no doubt. But to say career killer is way over the top. If you don't think he can parlay a gig at Rutgers by just making them play tough and win a few games he shouldn't your nuts. Nobody would expect them to be winning their division. But a tough, defensive minded coach could make a noticeable impact in a program and ADs would notice.
The big factor though will be landing local talent. But if he shows his recruiting chops bringing in good to great talent And coaches up the 3 star guys he can make an impact. At tOSU he had good players to work with, granted, but look what a huge impact he had immediately. The previous staff had good talent to keep in mind but Withers was just not that good. Ash stepped right in, grabbed the reins and the turnaround was dramatic.
It won't happen that quick at Rutgers but if he has some 7 and 8 win seasons in his first 3-5 years and beats a few teams he shouldn't and has some hard fought losses he will move up the ladder again. It's not the job I personally would have taken. I would have held out another year for something better but calling it a career killer is laughable. Tell that to Bill Snyder, Gary Patterson, Gary Pinkle, Gary Barnett, Jim Grobe, Dennis Erickson, etc.
