Chris Ash (Secondary Coach Jacksonville Jaguars)

but if you ask.. which job positions you best for the next elite tier opportunity... IMO Rutgers but I'm prejudice...
Cuse is barely mentioned anymore on major sports programs

Schiano took it to the NFL.. irregardless what Rutgers did this year... they're in the #1 media mkt in the country
they've been bowl bound something like 6 of last 7 years... this program is fixable...
years away from being B1G championship level... but bowl level every year for sure

suffice it to say.. neither team is going to blow his socks off with their shitty current salaries around $1.25M

Not saying this is the case for Ash but something I find interesting is a first year HC not being a little selective and holding out for a good fit. I'd look for someplace where I wanted to be and felt gave me a chance to win but without the spotlight. And some place I actually wanted to live for a while but hey that's just me. I know most guys are very anxious and competitive. Until a really good fit comes up why not keep winning and learning under someone like Urb?
I'm sure most of these coaches who fail think they can turn it around and be seen as a savior. Then from there they can get the attention of a top flight program. Can't say I blame him and besides his pay triples most likely

Could Ash be all in on the Rutgers gig?

Re: Chris Ash has pulled out of the Syracuse

Coaches usually pull out for one of three reasons (however, YEAH, there are some other reasons too):

1. They are told by the school (or just figure it out themselves) that they won't we selected so they can pull out to "save face".

2. They have an interview and honestly believe that they wouldn't be a "good fit" there; they have enough "character" to put principle before more money ($$$$) and opt out.

3. They are more interested in and/or know they will get another job.

Let's hope it is the latter and he gets Rutgers.

Let's hope it's the latter and he gets to stay at Ohio State.

The question is: Which school do you think gives you your best chance for success?

I'm sure there are (major) differences in things like administrations, facilities, academics, and salary, etc. between the 2 schools. However, in the end I think it is....Which conference and/or recruiting area (i.e. B1G vs ACC ) do you want to give you your best chance for success?

Spoiler: Honestly, I don't think that being in a conference division with Ohio State, Michigan State, scUM, and Penn State gives you that.

Syracuse is a glorified mid major though. Yea, they're in the ACC... but so is Wake Forest. Even if you succeed there (LONG shot), they can't afford to pay.
Rutgers isn't ideal, but even withing Big it's not that bad... compare to Purdue.

Anyway, hope Ash is still here... but at least wait for a decent gig imo. Probably start at a Mid Major out West (Some MWC and AAC schools seem to be in a sweet spot with minimal competition for 2nd tier talent from P5 schools)

Got one child pissed.. got another ecstatic

I have very mixed emotions... I think Ash has made monumental improvements to our defense... so that concerns me; as valuable as Herman was...
I do think he can do wonders at Rutgers
