Chris Ash (Secondary Coach Jacksonville Jaguars)

If this is true I have a "Dream" candidate as a replacement. Jeremy Pruitt. Right now smart money has him returning to Bama to replace Smart if he doesn't snag a HC gig now. Urban's pitch would be come to Columbus for 2 years and establish relationships with Ohio HS coaches and HS coached in the Midwest. Keep the Buckeye defense elite, recruit well and in 2 years there will not be an HC opening east of the Rocky Mountains that won't want to hire you.

Would not go to Rutgers unless he thinks he can clean up recruiting NJ. Too many other good programs in the B1G East to do well. IMO Maryland would be a better option in the B1G East, but still not an easy place to win. Syracuse might be a better option, but he would still have to recruit on par with FSU and Clemson to do well.

NJ is an absolute hotbed of DBs... he'd be awesome here.. perfect fit for the Scarlet Knights defense mentality...

Rutgers is the better job with a better recruiting base. Having Maryland as a rival is an obvious drawback.

'Cuse? Really? Who wants to go to 'cuse? For anything. Not that State Universty of NJ is much better, it sure as heck ain't 'cuse.

The question is: Which school do you think gives you your best chance for success?

I'm sure there are (major) differences in things like administrations, facilities, academics, and salary, etc. between the 2 schools. However, in the end I think it is....Which conference and/or recruiting area (i.e. B1G vs ACC ) do you want to give you your best chance for success?

Spoiler: Honestly, I don't think that being in a conference division with Ohio State, Michigan State, scUM, and Penn State gives you that.

Not saying this is the case for Ash but something I find interesting is a first year HC not being a little selective and holding out for a good fit. I'd look for someplace where I wanted to be and felt gave me a chance to win but without the spotlight. And some place I actually wanted to live for a while but hey that's just me. I know most guys are very anxious and competitive. Until a really good fit comes up why not keep winning and learning under someone like Urb?
