Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Not sure if anyone caught Chuckles' post-game press conference, but he commented about being proud of the 4th and 1 call and "patting himself on the back for that call."

An easy call to make when your punter has already taken a knee on a 4th and 2. I laughed my ass off on that one.

Seriously, what kind of a coach--what kind of a man--goes to a post game press conference after his team gets pasted for the 6th time in 7 games, and talks about what he did right. Once again, it just shows that, in his mind, this is all about Charlie. It's not about the players, the program or the school, nor is it about defense and fundamentals. It's about Charlie and his genius schematic advantage.

Fine by me.

Weis & ND deserve one another.

I don't think their NBC contract is going anywhere soon (enough). They (ND) control the east coast market where the only competition is Rutgers and Syracuse, a huge chunk of the Chicago market despite Illinois and Northwestern and a nice chunk of the LA/SF market. They'd be a valuable asset to the Big 10 for just that very reason and I think they know it.

I wouldn't terribly be against ND joining the Big 10, it would ensure the Irish would still get to play MSU, scUM, and Purdue as per the usual schedule. If they could find a way to get USC and BC on the schedule still that would just leave the usual service academies and Navy I think is the only one they never miss. ND wouldn't have to schedule any Big East games if they're in the Big 10.
I doubt this will ever happen though. If ND wanted to preserve their usual schedule, Big 10 would be the most convenient as far as rivalries go, but a conference would severely limit being able to pick up a team like Tennessee or Florida State for a big game if you're already playing USC, Navy, and maybe BC as non-conference games each year.

Weis and Carr both coached Tom Brady: Weis takes all the credit for their success and is an Offense Guru. Brady just had another unbelievable game without him. Which leads me to Carr. How they did not win more with him there??? Amazing to look back.

Yet Belichick couldn't win with the Browns.

I chalk it up to the Quarterbacks coach at NE. Carr has nothing to do with Brady's present success, and who knows how much Weis actually did.

A sentiment with which I fully agree. That, however, creates my dilemna. If I decide that I want them to continue on together for many years, spiraling deeper and deeper into mediocrity and impotent, flailing misery, it still means that Charlie is a 3.5 million dollar genius--at least in his mind and in the minds of his legion of sycophants--and every time he manages to string three victories in a row together, the nd hype machine inevitably cranks into full gear.

...or do I want Charlie to get the cosmic justice and national humiliation that he so richly deserves through being whacked, which would inevitably be followed by one of his "not my fault" lawsuits and a round of public accusations between he and the domer priests. It would be glorious, but it would also be fleeting. It also would open up the possibility that the domers might actually get the next hire right.

Notre Dame is scared of the Big Ten, and the Big Ten will never carve out special financial, scheduling or bowl considerations.

When the time inevitably comes that circumstances force nd to join a conference (and that time will come) expect the domers to either;

a) join the Big East because they'll consider it an easy route to a yearly BCS bowl, and the BE will most likely cave into their special demands

or

b) attempt to form some sort of "Catholic League" in which they'd have an easy route to an annual BCS bowl and would give them special considerations.

And then they can form their own "BTN" to broadcast games...the "Bible Thumping Network".

Scorelines from such ..
Baptists 14 - Catholics 17

and this just in Jesuits over Jehovah's Witnesses (whose Hail Mary play was scrapped last week) by a last second 27-yard field goal 13-10.

That's where my money is.

The head of The Church of Latter Day Saints would have a timely revelation to get BYU in on that action.

Now my first thought is to immediately attempt to visualize how Fat Bastard could even get close to patting himself on the back, then my thoughts turned to the comment itself. Thats great, nice use of the Hail Mary there.

Hey ORD, do you have a link to that quote from the post game? I couldn't find it, honestly. I did see that Charlie mentioned this team has a discipline problem after we got called on the excessive celebration penalty and other issues, and discipline is his job to teach. He also said though that you don't want to pin a loss on your QB, but that was part of the problem in the BC game.
Q. Can you talk about the play of the two quarterbacks for you today?
COACH WEIS: Well, I think that we were a little bit hot and cold. We made a few plays out there, made a few in the first half, a couple big ones. The bottom line is we have no touchdowns, no points. I thought Jimmy was banged up pretty good, didn't have great zip. I told him I'd give him the first drive of the second half to see what he had, and he came up and threw that early pick, and I just felt at that time a fresh Evan was the way to go. He gave us a spark and came out and made some plays, especially in that first drive, and he made some nice throws in the second half, but the bottom line is I think we're hot and cold.
Q. And following up on that, do you have to kind of weigh this and make a decision? COACH WEIS: Yeah, I'll have to wait and see how it goes. When we can't do I'm never big on blaming a quarterback for the lack of production of the offense, but obviously he's part of it, but I'll have to go wait until I take a look at this stuff.
In a lot of the losses this year Weis has mentioned doing a poor job preparing the team for the game, or not getting them ready for the speed of the game. I think this is the closest hes come to calling out a specific position, but Evan does seem to be more prepared when hes in the game, so a shot at Clausen may be justified. If he ends up starting against USC, which I don't think hes ready for, maybe he can use that as fuel.
