Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

I just read on the BC board that Weis tried to stiff the contractors who built his house in Mass--tried to say that the specs were off.

Damn, stiff the contractors who built your house then try to stiff and sue the doctors who tried to staple you gut. Anyone seeing a pattern here? Alienate and run off your program's former players.

All fat jokes aside, this guy is really coming off as a world class asshole. I'll bet things will turn really, really ugly when the priests decide they've had enough of his act and try to run him off.

Weis has had several former players come speak at pep rallys, Montana, Bettis, Aaron Taylor, and the Rocket to name a few. All have spoken highly of him. I personally know a former player from one of the 60s squads, he was at the Michigan State game with me for the Ara statue dedication. He met with coach briefly and had nothing bad to say about him. When it comes to Bob Kuechenberg I'm more apt to believe the opinions of the many over the opinions of the few, especially considering hes never met the guy personally.

This is an Ohio State board, we don't talk anymore rationally about ND than ND boards do.

Actually, I think it is fair to state that you are pitting the opinions that Bob has heard from his few (or more), privately, against the few players who have come back for pep rallies that you know to speak highly of Weis.

Opinions are divided, and in a very close community like ND you are likely to hear positives early, the negatives much later.

That's a great point. If (when?) it comes time to let him go, it seems highy unlikely that it would end cordially. I could envision (albeit with a biased view of Weis) Charlie going out of his way to try to hamstring the program on the way out. Bad-mouth the school to recruits, convince players to transfer, etc.

Or at the very least make it an unpleasant and very public split. That'll be fun.

One thing to think on. They got Wenger and Young out of St. Thomas Aquinas in '06. Wanted Major Wright out of the same school in '07 class.

Any chance that when Aquinas next has a good Senior class and Weis (or his asst. coach) comes calling, Bob K. will still be out on the ledge? (Or even on the other side of a burned bridge?)

I've told the story before but a prominant FL HS coach I was playing golf with thinks CW is a grade A dick. The coach was asked by a Tennessee fan simply who some of the big name coaches he had dealt with in recruiting, nothing more leading than that and he had no idea I was an OSU fan..I was just standing there and hadn't even been introduced to the guy yet. No OSU regalia visible.

Anyway from a simple "what are some of the big name coaches you've met like" (the guy wanted to hear something about Fulmer) came an instant venom laced rant about what dicks CW and Lloyd Carr are. Swear to God...and remember he's talking to what he thinks are SEC fans. The guys not stupid, it was obvious the UT fan wanted to hear some insight on fat Phil.

Now why in the hell would he bring those two coaches up that quickly to UT people if they hadn't made a HUGE impression?

My apologies if this has already been posted, but I never want to miss an opp to bash Charlie:

Bob Kuechenberg is a sad old man.

“I was up there two weeks ago for the Michigan State game,” Kuechenberg said. “He has insulted people. It doesn’t matter if you’re an ex-football player, a regular alumni, what have you. He’s been abusive and totally, unnecessarily arrogant to the Notre Dame family itself and it’s all coming back in his lap.

“I’ve yet to meet the man, and frankly I hope I never do. There’s nothing about his image that I have any respect for. I don’t know Charlie personally, but his image is wide enough and consistent enough from sources I hold in high regard. These are good friends of mine and it’s the same broken record. This guy is an ogre.

“He’s been rude to them, curt and abrasive. The Notre Dame student-athlete is held to a higher standard, so what’s with the coach? Hello -- you’re the leader. Act like one.”

Wow - I missed the Reuland move. This is getting VERY close to a major meltdown. The first big recruit with the words "Soft Verbal" placed next to his name may open the flood gates.

How many ships do we have left?

This is the 4th transfer from Charlie's vaunted first class (ranked #5). Carufel was ND's 7th best recruit overall (Reuland #1, Fraser #5, Jones high on rivals).

DT Omar Hunter is thought to be considering USC. Too bad Filer & McCarthy aren't easily swayed. DE Johnson would be nice given OSU's current DE hunt.
