CLEVELAND - The New Jersey Nets gave it their best shot; the Cavaliers rebounded it.
The underdogs ratcheted up their intensity and their level of execution in Game 2 on Tuesday night, but the Cavs absorbed it and then overcame it with another strong fourth-quarter kick. Getting impressive rebounding all game and LeBron James' best game of the postseason, the Cavs grabbed a 2-0 series lead with a 102-92 victory.
James scored 12 of his 36 points in the defining final 12 minutes and was masterful in distributing the ball the entire game. The Nets were determined to stop him, going to a zone to try to prevent his drives, but he was undeterred.

Cavaliers playing the part of a perfect 10

By Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND - Think about this Cavaliers fans -- your team has won 10 games in a row.
That's right, a perfect 10-for-10.
Ten games when it has meant the most, the last four of the regular season to secure the prized second playoff seed.
Then four in a row over the Washington Wizards in the first round.
Now, the Cavs are ahead 2-0 over the New Jersey Nets in this best-of-seven series after a 102-92 victory Tuesday night before a sellout crowd of 20,562 at Quicken Loans Arena.

Cavaliers game day

Gooden continues to double his pleasure

Power forward gets fourth double-double of playoffs, complementing LeBron nicely. Cavs dominate boards

By George M. Thomas

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Drew Gooden has proved golden in the playoffs. He got his fourth double-double in the Cavaliers' 102-92 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday night.
Fans have lamented the Cavs' inability to find a player to complement forward LeBron James, but in Gooden, it would seem that they've found an important cog.
Gooden, who figured prominently in trade rumors earlier this season, had 10 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday night and is averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds in the playoffs.

Tapes await Cavs

After day off, it's time to study for Game 3

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Should the Cavaliers' chests become a little puffy in the next few days, coach Mike Brown has an anti-hubris machine he's going to employ.
It's about 4 feet wide, 2 feet tall, and it must have cost more than $10,000.
Fresh off a 102-92 victory over the New Jersey Nets in their Eastern Conference semifinal series, Brown gave his team Wednesday off. But when they arrive for today's workout, Brown promises to ground his team with film study on the club's giant video screen.
``I want them to enjoy this, but we're going back to work Thursday,'' Brown said. ``Trust me, there will be plenty on the tape.''

Smaller lineup is likely for Nets

Effort to get loose balls wouldn't spur change for Cavs, Brown says

By Brian Windhorst

CLEVELAND - There is a general ebb and flow to most playoff series.
The loser of the most recent game usually plans to make changes. The winner wants to keep status quo. It's holding to that form as the Cavaliers and New Jersey Nets reunite after three off days for Game 3 at 5 p.m. today at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.
The Nets want to get more rebounds -- they've gotten 31 fewer than the Cavs in the first two games -- and to see their star player become more of a factor. The Cavs, ahead 2-0 after wins on their home court, want to keep getting the rebounds, keep the star at or around par, and continue gathering wins.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Defense, rebounds enabling Cavs' run

Saturday, May 12, 2007 Jodie Valade
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Cavaliers know there's typically frustration involved, sometimes a sense of hopelessness. The rest of it's fuzzier, but they don't mind the slight amnesia. Because it has been 34 days, 10 games and six consecutive playoff triumphs since the Cavaliers last lost a game.
The feelings that come with losing are becoming more distant, and as the Cavaliers focus on retaining the advantages that have led to a 2-0 series lead -- namely, rebounding and defense -- heading into today's Game 3 at New Jersey, they also have come to one certain conclusion.
"I don't think we feel like we're ready to lose just yet," Cavaliers guard Larry Hughes said.

What a joke. If I wanted to watch somebody mail it in, I'd watch a Reds game.
Bunch of us were watching this at the bar (fabulous food and a great time) game goes to 73-77 and one of the party says
"If they don't watch out they'll not get another gate in this series in Cleveland."

Some eight minutes and change of absurd ball handling later the Cavs make Kidd look like a world beater - and have guaranteed at least one more game on hime turf.

You hope those things aren't true, but at some point you have to believe what your eyes are showing to you.

Win or Lose the last 3 minutes has been deplorable....if that report regarding Sasha and AVince is correct and Brown threatened Sasha it just goes to show why he shouldn't be a head coach in the NBA

yeah WTF? Does he think he's coaching a junior high team or something?

I'm scratching my head...I mean, we won, but at the same time there isn't any possible way we should have.......between Drew Gooden shooting a 20 footer with 18 on the clock or LeBron's two quick jumpshots while up by more than a possesion under 2:30 is just mind boggling

What a poorly coached team......this team just has sooo much potential yet we lack in so many fundamental areas including LeBron's lack of a killer instict and this team taking ridiculous shots under 3:00 with a 5 point lead.

I agree, you have to love the defense we played on NJ, but it is so obvious to me that while we might be better than NJ and other teams in the half court, but we excel so much more in the open court and when we are running...

I missed the report. Did they give any specifics?

How on earth did Jason Kidd disappear in the second half? That was the story of this game. The story of the series is Vince Carter officially cementing himself as a second-tier player who believes he should be first tier.
