Cavs 06-07 season thread

I don't care how far we get, Mike Brown needs to be gone after the playoffs. He is a fucking amateur, fucking amateur. These guys have been winning in spite of his obvious ineptitude. I think we pull out the series 4-1, but still fall to Detroit due to the fact Brown doesn't know how to design a gameplan or draw up a play to beat a good HS team. This team is winning on talent alone, and that always comes back to bite you in the ass.

With a decent head coach, this team has the talent and ability to get to the finals. With Mike Brown...not so much.

I think Mike Brown has done a good to great job teaching the Cavs how to play defense (aside from Gooden's inability to help on the pick and roll), but I agree that in order to take the next step they are going to need a better offense and gameday coach. Lets also hope that they can pull in one of the vets that is willing to take less money in order to have a chance to win a championship because that is the only way that they are going to improve the roster this off season. They can resign Andy and Pavs, but IIRC they will only have $5 mil to spend on any FA's. Regardless they are going to be well over the luxury tax next season even if all they do is keep the current team in place.

The fact that this team has one 100 games and going on three playoff series the last two seasons despite his inability to develop a decent offensive gameplan shows that the talent is indeed there. Mike Brown just needs to stick to being a defensive assistant, or at the very least they need to bring in an offensive mind to draw up a scheme for him.

I think Brown is an adequate coach right now, but we desperately need to bring in an offensive minded assistant to re-tool our offense around our best players.

I still don't know why Eric Snow plays outside of the final few minutes when we need his defense. Gibson should be getting a lot more minutes in this series. He should be taking 4-5 threes per game.

I also heard that it's very likely that Newble, Jones, and Marshall won't be back next year. Hopefully that will help our bench(replacing completely ineffective players with players that might be marginally effective).

Anyways, the offense is the big issue. Game management will come for Brown. He's an amazing defensive coach. You have to give him that. He's really gotten the Cavs into the elite defensively. Our offense just needs to be tweaked(a true PG that is talented enough to start also wouldn't hurt, but I digress...).

Newble will be easy to work in a deal if they want to (contract year), although out of those three players he is the most valuable since he will ride the bench, keep his mouth shut, and play good D when they need him. Jones and Marshall both have 2 years left on their contracts so they will be harder to deal. They need to find a way to move Jones since he is basically just taking up a roster spot right now. Hopefully someone remembers him as the "worlds greatest 3 point shooter" and will make a deal for him. I'd give him along with $3 mil for a second round pick this year. If they move Marshall they will have to find another big man to take his place. I know he hasn't done much this season, but I think they will give him another year simply because he is a big man that can shoot (sometimes). Wesley has a team option for next year, which I'm sure won't be picked up, but there might be a way to use that to get some trade value. Pollard will most likely be gone unless he likes getting paid to wear suits to games or the Cavs trade Marshall and want to keep Pollard as the 4th big. The Cavs need for Gibson and Brown to step up big time next year since they don't have any draft picks this year. I would love to see the Cavs sign Humphrey from Florida if he doesn't get drafted. He reminds me of Steve Kerr.

I'm Not a Cavs fan, but I'm now pulling for them in the East since the Bulls are toast.

It's interesting to see so many negative posts regarding a team that is curently tied for having the best record in the playoffs. :wink2:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Cavaliers' closing mechanics might need a little oil, but it won't cost them a closing chance.
To put it mildly, they were a little unsteady down the stretch in Game 4 against the New Jersey Nets on Monday. But another heavy dose of gritty defense overcame it and allowed the Cavs to escape with a hard-fought 87-85 victory.
The win snapped the Nets' 10-game home winning streak, but more importantly, it put the Cavs ahead in the series 3-1. They'll have a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 1992 in Game 5 on Wednesday night in Cleveland.

Cavaliers tough it out with defense

By Terry Pluto

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - When it meant the most, the Cavaliers were tougher than the New Jersey Nets.
That's why the Cavs have a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals after their 87-85 victory over the Nets at the Meadowlands on Monday.
The Cavs won this game coach Mike Brown's way -- with Nets star Vince Carter trying to bull his way to the basket against Eric Snow.
In those final 10 seconds, with the Cavs leading by two points, the clock tick, tick, ticking....
The Nets' star was dribbling, dribbling, dribbling....
Snow, with his anvil of a forearm in Carter's back, his feet shifting from side to side to side, staying in front of Carter....

We are winning, but it is just frustrating way of winning, when anyone with any type of basketball sense can see the problem, and there isnt anything done about it...

Being a fan of Cleveland pro sports for 40 years now, I know the Cavs will find away to yet again disappoint NE Ohioans...

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Cavs add some body to hair-raising game

Plain Dealer Columnist
East Rutherford, N.J. -- Dave DeBusschere, the final piece to the Knicks' championship jigsaw years ago, would say every time the playoffs rolled around: "When they put the money down, we'll be there."
It was a virtual pauper's age by the standards of today. But by most standards of playoff magnification, Monday night was a money game for the Cavaliers.
And when they put the ball down, anyway, the Cavs went down and got it.

The gritty, defensive fourth game of the second-round series went to the Cavs, 87-85, because New Jersey's Vince Carter made the times LeBron James pounds the ball at the top of the key look like the "hit the open man" Knicks at their finest.

the fundamental problem of having piss-poor outside shooters, or two big men that look like rainman trying to defend the pick and roll?

I would call the same offensive play every time inside of two minutes as well when my other viable shooting options are eric snow and larry hughes.
