Cavs 06-07 season thread

That third quarter was the closest I've ever come to breaking my tv. I've never been that pissed over poor performance in my life.

I put that squarely on Coach Brown. He needed to have this team better prepared coming out of the lockeroom and he needed to take control of the situation before it got out of hand. Instead, a seventeen point lead became nothing in a matter of six minutes.

We NEED to put some complete games together if we're going to make a legitimate run in the playoffs. We haven't done it yet.

Ilgauskas finds some happiness this time in playoffs

By Terry Pluto

WASHINGTON - There's a part of Zydrunas Ilgauskas that always seems sad. Sometimes, it's his sagging shoulders. Other times, it's just a pained, weary expression like that of a man who realizes that he just missed the bus -- the last bus of the night -- and he has a long, cold walk home.
But these days, the Cavaliers center is smiling, especially after they took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven, first-round playoff series against the Washington Wizards with a 98-92 victory Saturday.
Ilgauskas is not about to put a lampshade on his head and become the life of the party. Most fans are aware that his wife prematurely lost twins (their first children) in early February. It took Ilgauskas a few weeks to snap out of it, as would be expected.
You can be sure that some of that grief never will go away.
He also has battled through five foot surgeries over the years, and in many ways, it's remarkable that he's even on the court.

Cavaliers game day

One clutch shot redeems Pavlovic in postseason

Struggling Serbian hits key 3-pointer, makes block to help Cavs win

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

WASHINGTON - Sasha Pavlovic is learning firsthand the difference between the regular season and the postseason.
Pavlovic was perhaps the Cavaliers' most impressive player in the last quarter of the regular season, establishing himself as a starter and becoming a reliable offensive option in every game. In the last 19 games, Pavlovic averaged 14.8 points and shot 51 percent.
The first three games of the series against the Washington Wizards have been hard on the young Serbian. He has struggled with foul trouble early in games, his jump shot has been unreliable, and his drives have often ended in disaster. Which says nothing about some questionable decision-making as well.

Cavs look for playoff sweep
Sunday, April 29, 2007
BY Mike Popovich
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

WASHINGTON Their 17-point halftime lead was gone in a hurry. As the second half wore on, the Cavaliers found themselves up against a team with a renewed sense of hope and a ton of enthusiasm.

It?s a good thing the Cavs

didn?t lose theirs either.

The Cavs took Washington?s best punch Saturday in Game 3, and now they have a chance to administer the knockout blow. A 98-92 win over the Wizards at the Verizon Center gave the Cavs a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and a chance to close it out Monday.

Well we closed it out...

We were never overally impressive, but we go tthe job done, hit tough shots when we needed to, and played good defense...

It is great to get Z, Larry, and Drew a good series under their belt going forward...

this team was in cruise control for 3.5 games. they needed to grind one out like they did in the 2nd half.

I hope the intesity level goes up a lot in the next series, or the Nets will offer a serious threat. On the other hand it was great to see Z have a great series. If he can dominate the paint it will go a along way to counter New Jeresy's edge in the backcourt.

Worst. Sweep. Ever.

I'm glad the Cavs are moving on, but they should've blown this team away. Instead, they basically scraped by a depleted team four times in a row.

For whatever reason it seemed like the Wizards were winning the effort column every game, and that the only reason the Cavs won was because of their far far far superior talent level. Maybe the Wizards players were just giving the effort because they knew that this was a time they could show their team and others that they could play a bigger role in the NBA.

A hallmark of the Mike Brown era. It does indeed concern me that we didn't manage to look more impressive against what was essentially the Wizards JV team. Sure close wins can help with mental toughness, but it was too close for my comfort. NJ scares me in round 2 because they are a veteran team that has been playing hard. LBJ is gonna have to really get this team fired up to win that series (i'm assuming NJ is going to win).

We will see the fire in their eyes that we didnt see this series...

I hope so. LeBron typically seems to rise to the occasion when needed.

Yeah I agree, he seems to have more of an understanding of when it is his time and when he can lean on his teammates a little more like in this series...

Also he was basically doing all the coaching in a timeout at the end of the game, as Mike Brown just sat there and shook his head like he was a yes man...
