Cavs 06-07 season thread

I don't understand why teams were resting guys as much going into the playoffs. Is 3 days off not enough time to rest? It isn't like the NBA playoff schedule is a brutal as a conference tourney in CBB. They only play 2 or 3 games a week.

they also play an 82 game season vs a 30 game college season where you only play twice a week. guys that have been dinged up for an extended period of time may need a week or 10 days to recover, especially 1. rookies that aren't used to such a long schedule, and 2. vets that aren't exactly spring chickens anymore.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Ilgauskas, slowed by a sore ankle in last year's playoffs, is healthy and in sync offensively as Cavs open postseason

Plain Dealer Reporter
Center Zydrunas Ilgauskas was not at his best during the Cavaliers' playoff run last year against these same Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons. His rebounding and scoring averages were down compared to his regular-season output.
Ilgauskas averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 13 playoff games. He averaged 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds during the regular season. Clearly that's not the same.
He will get another chance to improve his numbers when the first round of the playoffs open at 12:30 today between the Cavaliers and the Wizards at The Q.

Well we took game 1, not a real impressive game from us, but we got it done...

I really hate how Brown went with the same 7 guys all game, I would of liked to see more of Donyell and some of Boobie...

Hughes played a great game today, and LBJ kinda went thru the motions and put up 20+ pts...

You have to feel good that the Cavs didn't play a great game and still won handily. I had to listen to the game on the radio, but I was never worried about the outcome of the game. Three more like that and I'll be happy. With
Arenas and Butler out the Wizards just don't have enough to beat the Cavs.

Was that John Thompson doing the game today on TNT? Whoever it was, the guy was a total Washington homer (which is why I think it was Thompson, if you ever hear him talk about G'Town basketball). Every single comment he made was some derivation of: (1) the Wizards are unlucky b/c of the injuries; (2) the Cavs were incredibly flat; or (3) the Wizards showed a lot of heart. I'm not saying these all aren't valid and relevant points to be made in the course of the telecast, but every single comment the guy made ripped the Cavs and praised the Wizards. TNT should get rid of that biased hack.

Thank God FSN Ohio was covering. That way I didn't have to mute it. I listened to TNT's coverage for the first five minutes and had to change it. Horrible is the only accurate description.

I was a little worried that Z didn't get going in the first half. I thought, "oh no, this is going to be just like last year". He surprised me though in the second half. Great performance out of him, Gooden, and Varejao. Those three are better than every single post player the Wizards have(I consider Jamison a wing).

I like John Thompson, but he's better suited for the studio show.

In the 4th quarter, he kept harping on the Cavs not playing a more up-tempo style to wear out the Wizards. It was obvious that the Wizards ended up getting wore out by the slower tempo that the Cavs imposed. If he had been more astute (like me ) he would have realized that for once, Mike Brown's boring-ass brand of basketball is the perfect strategy against this team. First of all, a faster tempo is the style that the Wizards are most comfortable with. Second of all, the Wizards will get wore out by making them work hard for 24 seconds on each defensive possession rather than making them run the floor on quick, short possessions.

If we don't get the ball into the post at least every other possession against this team, Brown should be fired. Their two best post players are Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood.

The Cavs should definitely play slow against this team. Eddie Jordan is also a notoriously bad defensive coach. Playing a fast pace would play into their strengths and against their weakness.

I think Brown had a great gameplan for today. I'd like to see Lebron in the post more. He could dominate the post against anyone the Wizards put on him.

They did say Butler might be back by game 3 or 4...

As for Thompson, I like him, but I actally had to mute the game today, he just kept harping the same thing, and IMO he was off base b/c we werent going to run up and down and we wore them out playing the way we were playing...Also just like LBJ said at halftime, they are NBA players as well...

LeBron says he'll play in Game 2

Wizards do not expect injured Caron Butler to return for the series

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - The Washington Wizards got more bad news on the injury front Monday.
First, LeBron James pronounced himself and his sprained left ankle fit to play for Game 2 on Wednesday, a full 48 hours before such a decision was required.
Meanwhile, back at Wizards camp in D.C., Washington coach Eddie Jordan dispelled any rumors or posturing that Caron Butler and his amazing bone-healing machine would miraculously have him back from a broken wrist by the end of the week.
James, who rolled his ankle on Etan Thomas' foot in the second half of the Cavaliers' Game 1 victory on Sunday, skipped the Cavs' light workout Monday and received about two hours of treatment at Quicken Loans Arena.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS\NBA PLAYOFFS
It's Z keeping them awake

Forget about LeBron James and Larry Hughes. It's center Zydrunas Ilgauskas who the Washington Wizards are concerned about heading into Wednesday's Game 2 of their best-of-seven playoff series against the Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.
"Right now the biggest adjustment would be preventing their fast-break opportunities, and also making sure that we don't let Ilgauskas get it going offensively," Washington forward Antawn Jamison said after Game 1 on Sunday. "Once he got it going offensively and we had to worry about double-teaming him, they got open opportunities as far as shooting jumpers. You don't want them to get into a rhythm that way."

Wizards' plan is to limit LeBron

Defensive scheme makes other Cavaliers pick up scoring slack

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Part of having underdog status is not getting respect. It might be rule No. 1.
Nonetheless, the Washington Wizards, and especially coach Eddie Jordan, think that they're getting slighted a little when it comes to the defensive strategy they've employed on LeBron James. Perhaps they have a point, one that they hope to prove again in Game 2 tonight of the first-round playoff series at Quicken Loans Arena.
Last year, James tore up the Wizards in the playoffs, averaging 36 points in the six games and making two game-winning shots. It was a blight on the Wizards' strong belief that big-time offense can overcome all in the playoffs.
