Cavs experimenting with rotation
Saturday, March 24, 2007

CLEVELAND Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown still has 13 games left in the regular season to experiment with his rotation.

The starting lineup is set. Barring injuries, you can expect LeBron James, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Sasha Pavlovic and Larry Hughes to start the rest of the way.

Playing time for some of the backups, however, can change on any given night. A couple of examples:

? Eric Snow played 31 minutes Tuesday at Charlotte, but was on the court for 5 minutes the next night against Dallas.

Getting best of the West LeBron feels East deserves respect
Sunday, March 25, 2007
By MIKE POPOVICH

When East meets West, the Cavaliers have been the East's best.

The Cavs are 18-10 against the Western Conference, with two games remaining - tonight at home against Denver and April 3 at Minnesota. Their .643 winning percentage is the highest of any East team against the West and the team's best since 1997-98 when Cleveland went 19-9 (.678).

Sure, the Cavs have lost all four games against West leaders Dallas and Phoenix. But they beat San Antonio twice for the first time in 18 years, and beat Utah and Houston.

Bad trip could drop their playoff seeding

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Despite two months of generally good play, the Cavaliers have still gotten themselves into a tenuous position.
After losing three of four games last week, despite three of them being at home, the Cavs are suddenly closer to being the No. 5 seed in the tightly-packed Eastern Conference than the No. 1 seed. Plus the prospects for the next 10 days aren't all that appealing as they begin a nine-day, five-game road trip tonight in Indianapolis against the Pacers.

Nice to clench a playoff spot early again. Snow looked like a better PG tonight than Hughes. They both drive to the hoop and play good D, but Snow doesn?t jack up a bunch of bad shots. I guess Pavlovic is the key to the new lineup rather than Hughes. I?d like to see Gibson get some time with Lebron and Pav to see what the three of them can do. It looks like Boobie?s getting his 3pt touch back. I?ll be surprised if Hughes finishes his contract with the Cavs. I bet he?ll make it to the final year and they?ll unload him to a team that is trying to get out of a big contract. Lebron, Pavlovic, Gibson, Brown, Varejao, and maybe Gooden are the future of this team.

The way the playoff picture looks right now the Cavs need to get into the 1 seed. Unfortunately to do that they are going to have to be damn close to undefeated for the rest of the season. I don't particularly want them to play Orlando in the first, Miami/Washington in the second, and the Pistons in the third, when they could play the 8 seed in the first, Chicago in the second, and the winner of Miami/Washington/Detroit in the third. Not like getting to the finals would matter unless somehow the Spurs or Jazz get there from the West.

I don't want to see the Heat in the second round, but we will have home court on them, and think that unless Wade comes back healthy we are the better team in a 7 game series as their old age will catch up to them in all those games in little amount of time...

They have had some bad losses the past week since they went on the road. There win streak they were on were against some mediocre teams and 8 of 9 games were at home...

i said about 2 weeks ago to someone that the Heat wouldn't be able to sustain that level of play because they are too old quite frankly. by the end of the regular season, shaq will be worn down as will zo and eddie jones.

Still I would rather the Pistons play the Heat in the second round just to be sure that they both are completely worn down for round 3. The Cavs got tired halfway through game 6 with the Pistons last year and weren't able to recover. The Pistons were tired from the Cavs series and lost to the Heat.

I agree 100%--the winner of the Eastern Conference will be either the Cavs, Pistons, or Heat, and it will be the one of those three that only has to face one of the other two.

As long as the Bulls and Cavs keep playing well the Wizards will play the Heat in the first round. Here's to hoping the Bulls take 2 from the Pistons and lose to the Cavs in their next 5.

Then the winner of that would get the Pistons and we would get the Bulls...

Sounds like a great set up to me...
